I'm trying to get my first 'tourist' mission across the Sinai Map, and the Roosevelt is one of the ships that I want to naviage the channel.

My ham-fisted approach is obviously unfit for this, as try as I might, I can't get that unit past the first bifurcation, it seemingly runs aground in the middle of the channel just south of Qantara West.

Can some kind of soul point me to my error here? Is the Suez Canal even shippable for the Roose?

AI ships are very sensitive to shore collision. It's not about depth. Try adding more points at the corners.

I had the same when I tested the ships

or send me the mission file, I can look and check again.

I successfully transited the Teddy Roosevelt through the Suez Canal.  Comply with the orange buoy channel markers and keep your speed below 15 knots. Transit took 5 hours ...

In game, there are the buoys.

Hard to find in ME.

thanks for the answer.

i have tried many things. but as soon as my carrier enters the channel from the north, it makes a right turn and gets stuck.

this happens even when i am already spawning in the channel.

@Jakko: It's not easy, unfortunately. Make sure your waypoints aren't too close together. It can cause this behavior. AG-51_Bluto's drawing should work. The hardest parts of the canal taught me sometimes all it takes is to move the waypoint by a couple feet and suddenly it works. Remember ships "pass" their waypoints a bit early, and immediately begin to steer towards the next one, causing them to cut corners depending on the geometry of the path.

Basically all you have to do is place ample waypoints (40-50) and keep the course changes between each one at a minimum. Again, the ships don't strictly follow the ME line/path, but in general it's enough to set the waypoints in the middle of the canal. 1 waypoint per 10 degrees of curvature, at least 1500 ft apart. (edit: Oh and don't forget to choose the right speed before placing 50 waypoints)

Works for the Seawise Giant 🙂

Would have been nice if it was possible to treat the canal as a "road", same way as vehicles traveling on roads where the route snaps to the road.

No way I am going to spend hours in the ME getting a handful vessels safely through the canal by tweaking waypoints over and over again.

Thank you all for your kind assistance in this matter. The hint with the buoys was crucial, and the speed limit. Below is a mission that has the Samwise Giant navigate the Suez successfully, marks all orange buoys for better orientation on the map (ME only), and also populates the entire Suez Canal with ships based on Samwise's path.

Thank you all 🙏 for the tips and sample missions… I will convert them into Static Templates, so that I can more easily add these ships onto my missions 👍

Edit: Just added these to my Templates library .. its unfortunate that Static Templates can't contain triggers, so I had to save cfrag's scripts as lua files and then store them alongside the Template so I can add them manually whenever I use this particular template.

Thank you everyone, for sharing .. it truly will save a lot of time on my future missions 🙂
