ctguy1955 Posted September 8, 2023 Posted September 8, 2023 (edited) I am not sure when DCS stopped having flames come out of the engine exhaust ports, but I have seen videos on Youtube that show when they all did. Top Mustang shows flames and its 11 years old. Bottom video shows flames at 4:52 I found newer ones for the spitfire. Edited September 14, 2023 by ctguy1955 added another video 2
Rebel28 Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Sorry to say this plane use to have many things that are now missing: If you over primed the engine on start up you would get very large flames coming out the stacks. Along with that was a huge plume of smoke. THIS IS GONE If you pulled back on the throttle to quickly a puff of smoke would come out the stacks from over loading the cylinders with fuel. THIS IS GONE This plane came out in 2013 and the simple fact is that there is NO money in updating older planes. The money is in the Jets. 2

Been flying the plane since 2014 and although I remember the over-priming flames, I'm positive there never was smoke. Can't see it on pre-1.5 videos on YT either. It was wished for / requested since the beginnig, that's for sure! Steam cloud from engine overheated and blown on the ground was there (maybe still is?) The exhaust flames coming and going with updates are a problem for all DCS warbirds, Pony is not the only one. I would, however, play devil's advocate here and say the new prop animations, gun muzzle animation, tracer animation, 2018 cockpit repaint, BTD's sounds, cooling revamp, they all show that some hefty updating effort still goes into the oldest warbird trio (51, K4, D9) every now and then and they were way more important in my opinion than exhaust effects. Wouldn't mind getting proper ones, though, I'll give you that. It's the only area where DCS warbirds visually fall behind other sims at the moment. In 2.9 Spit and Mossie have overpriming flame glare visible (without any flame itself ), plus they have magic eternal flames from two stubs showing even when their engines are dead cold, so there's something going on there in animation department. Not sure If I want to see such shenanigans happening on Pony, though. No flames at all might be a better outcome. HARTMANN1145 Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Would indeed be great to see a few Flames and a puff of Smoke as these Engines fired into life. Windows 11 Pro,Asus Rog Strix x570-F,AMD Ryzen 9 5900x @4.7,Corsair Vengeance Pro 64 GB DDR4 @3600,MSI Navidia 4090,Thrustmaster Warthog,Philips Ambilight 48 OLED....and having a blast!
ctguy1955 Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 As ctguy1955, I posted many videos and photos of exhaust manifold flames on My premium account, and someone (name starts with an S and He makes DCSWorld Campaigns ) did not like Me mentioning I got the warbird flames from one of His campaigns. I just watched a DCSW YTube video with a mustang and spitfire showing flames!!! He also did not like FU2 420 as My tail number, as He was in a band and did drugs.

Well, you didn't as the flames come with the module, not any campaign. Don't think there are any WWII campaign creators that starts with an S... 9 minutes ago, ctguy1955 said: He also did not like FU2 420 as My tail number, as He was in a band and did drugs. Well, that makes perfect sense. Isn't it like legalised basically everywhere now?
Nealius Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 (edited) Exhaust flames shouldn't even be visible except in low-light conditions. They should also be more "pops" like muzzle flashes than the eternal bonfire we normally get. Edited October 13, 2024 by Nealius 4
