Hi, recently I picked up tomcat again and tried to land on the ground at Neills Air Force base, everything was fine before final touch down.

After touchdown, I found tomcat particularly prone to sideslip on the runway, I tried to compensate this problem by engaging antiskid spoiler with combination of rudder steering, and with full wheel brake, but tomcat still seems very prone to sideslip or even full drift after touch down, what is more awful is the rudder and spoiler would completely lost effect after lowering to certain speed, making aero steering completely useless, making me always rush out of the runway with no choice.

I would say I have never met with this issue ever before, and I tried to repeat to solve it  it at least 16 times with no solution.

maybe this is because heatblur had modified the ground handling of tomcat

could someone offer me a solution?

Have you checked your wheel brake axis?

No, I didn’t

I had that problem only once on takeoff and landing. I forgot to re-lock the front wheel. I was fighting drift big time on takeoff and on the landing because of it before I figured it out. Once it got going one way it was almost impossible to bring it back. Had me scratching my head for nearly an hour before I figured it out.

So what exactly should I do?

You mean turns off NWS?

The same problem happened to me.

The only possible explanation of this unprecedented issue is probably due to the  reason that heatblur modified the ground handling of tomcat

Which they did post on their website

Yes, they did, and for the good - they made much awaited improvements.

What you describe looks like controls problem, serious crosswind or blown tire. Make sure you don't have spikes on both brakes and rudder. Avoid double bindings. Use curves or deadzones when necessary. NWS should be turned off over 80kts GS. Keep the speed and landind weight within limits.

Can you make a short video with controls indicator osd while landing?

Yes, I’ll probably check if there was some double binding issue, but would likely with no results, cause I’m confident that there is no double binding issue for me, and honestly after at least 20 times trying, I really don’t know how to sort this thing out, if this was what real tomcat pilot’s experience, then they would 10/10 rush out of run way

And what is that spike on the brakes you mean?

But it wasn't and that's obviously not modeled to be like that. Not much other users experience this so we look for things on your side. Instead of guessing we need more data. Like a video, dcs.log, screenshots, example mission...

The signal spike comes from a faulty controls device and it's a wrong signal sent not intended by user, ex. full rudder extension signal is sent to the software with the small move of the pedals or even without touching them.

@Ddg1500 Can you share a short track replay of such a landing, so we can take a look at what's actually happening there?

This is my most recent touchdown, it is so far one of the less distributing situation among many of the chaotic touchdowns, in all three video i tried to correct the sideskid using full rudder and lateral stick movement, i even immediately engaged brakes after  touchdown in video 2&3, yet the tomcat still have uncontrollable or even more sideskid after slowing down, if this was normal situation the aircraft would have run out to the grass in majority of my situation, i just can't slove it, it upset me a lot, the aircraft is ok for a moment while still having some speed, but would lost control after slowing down, in general it would be hard to control it not to rush out, the video may not look so serious it was because i done my best to control it, and it was one the less worse ones

Thx, that's great. All videos show your problem, which is some left brake always applied on approach and at touchdown - not full, but around 20% - aircraft always veers to the left, at low speed you can't control it with rudder alone, you need to turn on NWS. So you know the reason, the aircraft behaves correctly - now fix is on you, check the left brake/pedal.

@MAXsenna Tracks are useless for showing the landing part when you crash in the field on the replay, don't you think?

If you have Spoiler Brake selected and not Both (which includes anti-lock braking, like ABS on a car) then you will skid on a runway when applying the brakes too hard.

Thank you, but videos are not well suited to analyze the issue. It would be much more helpful if you would provide some short track replays.

A few things there.

1. Left brake is constantly at 50% (use your heels to control rudder, not the ball of your feet)

2. Hard landing (aim for around 500-700fpm) or risk blowing a tyre

3. Do not brake on landing just let it roll and use rudder to counter any lateral movement.  Spoilers should be armed, air brake should be out, so just pull back and let the aero do the braking.  When it has slowed down significantly (around 60-80kts) then apply wheel brakes.  When you've slowed down blow 80kts (I tend to go less than that) use the nose wheel steering.

Thanks, after i tried your approach, the problem is solved, and i would further comment there was still some lateral movement after brake below 80 knots, use nws to correct it intead

Is it realistic when I hit the brakes 100% that the cat starts sliding?  (Tested on Caucasus Map)

-Spoiler brake is set to both.

-no unsync brakes

-no ghost inputs

-no rain

-no nosewheel steering.
