fighting the controls of the hind as pilot, mi24p has mind of its own

im trying to help my coworker.

he is experiencing difficulty controlling the mi24p in a behavior i experienced a few months back, and solved it by going into the mi24p special options and clearing the option for Control Helper.

i had him clear this option before, but he still experiencing difficulty controlling the aircraft. as copilot gunner i can see on the show controls indicator that he is applying way to much input, but IRL he has his joystick centered.

any ideas, anyone?

note, he also has the apache, and all his controls work ok for that module.

Maybe I don't understand which setting you're talking about, but unticking the "Control Helper" box simply hides the controls indicator at the beginning of the mission. It's not supposed to change aircraft controllability.

If he enables the heading channel autopilot (the one on the far left) when starting the aircraft, tell him not to, because it acts OK at the beginning of the mission, then at some point it goes full left or right and the pilot loses all control. I don't use it anymore for this reason. I'm not sure if it's a bug or me using it in a wrong way.

Your coworker must also check his speed regularly: overpassing 350 kph causes the Mi-24 to roll uncontrollably.

Track would be best. My guess is that he is not using trim release in a way that makes autopilot actually help you

For yaw AP channel you have 3 options:

- keep the channel OFF

- bind a switch that will disable heading hold and leave AP in dampening mode

- use 3rd party program to toggle  button(default key Y) as an above switch

it was this thread that i started that some one said control helper will affect hind controls... if it is the "show control indicators", its more clear if it is called just that, even though in the DCS settings under MISC already covers whether the "show controls indicator" to be on or off when in game.. who knows when i have it cleared i was able to fly hind normally.. maybe i have to try turning this option on (after work) to see if in fact this option is about the "show controls indicator"... will check back on this too!

“Controls indicator” is just the display showing controls, “control helper” is an old “assist” that doesn’t work anymore and just makes flying harder

I thought it was the same option as the Huey "Show Hints at Mission Start".

I think there is a "control helper" and "AI Autopilot Assist" that are separate things in the Hind. Can't check right now, I'm busy crossing the Pacific Ocean in another piece of software

Pretty sure “AI autopilot assist” is a Mi-8 only feature, for flight engineer to center the autopilot channels. 

But since we have trim button in Mi-24 that does re aligns autopilot the same way, the knobs are there for testing/maintenance 

There is a lot of options and doesn’t help that there is two separate AI menus for Petrovich and the gunner respectively

Yes, but I believe this function was carried over to the Mi-24 for some reason.
