Hello,

had a mission with a F1BE AI plane landing before me at Kobuleti. I noticed,  that the dropped chute stayed on the runway really long.

Plane landed RW 07 and was long on the taxiway almost all the way back to the beginning of RW 07.

I know, it will not do anything to other planes, but the chute should be collected / disappear shortly after the AI planes leaves the active runway, regardless how long the taxi route will be. Or is the chute object hard linked to the AI plane and will only disappear when the AI plane gets deactivated?

Flight was in 2.9 MT.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

@Flappie Can you move this thread to DCS general objects bug or should I report a new bug there?

Need to create a track anyway I guess which shows the problem. The mission in which I took the screenshot was long and I noticed this on my landing roll, that the chute from the AI plane was still on the active runway.

Thanks for moving the thread.

Did a quick test with just the AI F1BE and me sitting on the ramp.

F1BE landed and released the chute after landing at mission time 08:05:46:

Plane arrived at parking spot: 08:10:34

Ended mission with plane parking and mission time: 08:22:28, chute was still on the runway around 17 min after releasing the chute.

Tested in MT 2.9, track attached.

  • Flappie changed the title to Brake chute being on active runway fairly long

They are two different issues.

If you have more information about the designated chute cut area, I'm all hears.

MiG-29 manual says never to jett. landing chute on the runway as it might pose a hazard.

That sounds like a nice piece of advice. 😄

Devs need to know where chutes are dropped IRL if we want it to be implemented correctly. Are they allowed to park with the chute still attached? Or is there an exclusive "drop your chute" area with a guy waiting on a chair to pick up the chutes? Maybe that depends on the airfield?

I will check the manual again for details...

Ok so the "cookbook" says that the chute on the 29 should be jettisoned after leaving the runway and in a "specific place". Now I have no idea what is meant by "specific place", but I guess in DCS it could be the taxiway. Real fields probably have designated areas where it's safe to discard the chute, but this is pure speculation on my side. On thing is sure though: NOT on the runway! 😇

The answer is: it depends.

The Tigers in my country, depending on the airfield, drop their chutes on the runway. There is someone of the ground crew at a specific location next to the runway, and when the aircraft drives past that location, they drop their chutes on the runway and them some guy comes running and collects the chute.

On a different airfield they drop it when exiting the runway.

So, it depends on the country and their operational procedures.

Yes, that's why I've mentioned the aircraft type 😉
I doubt it's country-specific in this case, but I will have to cross-check with Flanker's cookbook.

Flanker's cook-book only mentions to release the chute (тормозной парашот) after the landing roll or on command. It comes before the paragraph that says what to do after leaving the runway, so I assume it can be dropped on the runway? Looks like it might be operator-specific after all.

It's operator specific, but I think we can agree, regardless of where the jettison chute area is, there is someone collecting it in a short period of time to not interfere with further aircraft.

So for the game and different aircraft using the drag chute we could pretend, the dropped chute object should be removed after x amount of time. Maybe 30 - 60 seconds?!
