Good Day Tetet, 

I see above that you have noted the Grey and Swedish liveries for the Phrog, I would also like to add a request for the Mid 80's USMC Grey/Green/Black scheme and the US Navy Vertrep Squadrons Dark Blue.  I am sure the enlarged cylindrical sponsons of the Swedish bird are beyond the scope of this project, Note the Japanese Phrog's also used the same configuration as Sweden.

I've added another tab on our Google Document, tracking the livery development somewhat:

Will take a while to get there though. On the different fuel tanks, not sure if we can pull that off.

Am using those three ships as Fletchers, Sumners, and light cruisers, respectively, on the WWII maps, escorting the new DCS USS Essex carrier.

(as well as all my Korea and Vietnam maps)

 

As the formations are small, maybe 1 or 2 carriers, the screen is generally 2 CL's and 4 DD's, at 3,000 yds cruising plan.

So in the pattern, will fly over several at 150 kts/300 ft, as they are plane guard and lead destroyers in line w/ the carrier.

They look great, except for the later applied dark deck coating, if that is correct.

The overhauled ships, not used, even appear to have it on the 5" gun turrets.

 

As these are still gunboats, a lighter deck would make them a great WWII cut-in.

Don't know the trouble, but a mod file would be fine as the rest of the ship is good to go.

Consider it.

Unfortunately we have nobody who wants to retexture the ships. If you know of a texturer that is interested let me know and I will add it as livery option.

Thanks for the kind words. We have an alternative MiG-17 model now, but it also has severe weaknesses. It will not be included in the coming update 2.2.0.

Let me check what happens when I remove the radomes, not sure the uv map will survive this. I hope I can reach out to you for a Civilian livery then?

Yesterday night saw a sort of break-through for animating the rotor folding. After wondering how to get it done, we finally got the idea to check the stock SH-60B and see, there arg 8 is used. Now rotor folding is a thing. I made my first YouTube short about this:

First test looks good. There's still an excessive number of antennas, not sure they were on a real Super Constellation, but as a  make-shift airliner it would work. The uv map does not seem to be affected when removing the radomes:

Do you use Substance Painter or a 2d graphics program?

I use an ancient  software called PhotoImpact10,it does everything I need but it does struggle with 8k textures. I work in bmp format using Paint.NET to convert stuff to dds for the game. 

If my software struggles I reduce the texture to 4k and it handles that perfectly.  All I need is something to work from, a base. I prefer a simple white livery which I can manipulate in as many ways as I need.

I imagine there will be others who will also do some skins for it, its an iconic aircraft ansd it should be quite popular.

The surface just looks awful. Tip: place a layer with the same color over the normals and reduce the transparency to 70%, then it should look better.

Thanks Urbi! Do I understand correctly to make the normals less impactful by overlaying a blue texture (from the normals base color) and hide 30% of the normals strength via transparency? I'll give that a try, thanks for the constructive feedback.

The bumpy road of texturing. Graphics are not exactly my forte (if you haven't guessed that by now). I tried to apply @Urbi's advice, but the first result was a tad bit discouraging. Especially as I have no clue what went wrong:

I then re-did everything and the result, while not exactly great, is much better:

Unfortunately the model is not too easy to re-texture. To help with the effort I asked Substance Painter to export a 2D version of the textures:

Welcome to Vietnam War Vessels 2.2.0!

This update brings two new air assets into the mod:

  1. The CH-46D Sea Knight dual rotor medium transport helicopter
  2. The EC-121 Warning Star airborne early warning and radar surveillance aircraft

We thank Odyseus for the model of the Phrog - CH-46D, and TAZ56 for his generous donation of the EC-121 model to the mod.

But not only the air assets saw an update, it's busy on the ground too. Odyseus sourced and delivered quite a few different assets for the buildings pack - which is oddly named by now. We now have a set of structures ranging from guard towers, over barrels, a conex container, to barracks and hangar. While the assets are still raw, they can be used for some basic base building. Even an experimental armed guard tower is part of it, though it needs the excellent Vietnam Asset Pack from Eightball and Tobsen.

Further the CVA-31 Bon Homme Richard got updated connectors to reduce the dcs.log spam. We learned on the DCS forums that the Knox class destroyer escorts did not trigger the RWRs of approaching planes. This has been fixed and the USS Gray should now be seen as an U on the RWR. Staying with the fleet, some ships got texture fixes (USS Mullany, USS Allen M Sumner, USS Laffey, USS Maddox (TI)) and normal map (USS New Jersey).

Please take a look at our KNOWN ISSUES for the new parts of the mod below.

  • ramp not opening when landed
  • flight model questionable at times

  • the plane comes in a little to hot when landing
  • the textures are very basic

buildings

  • Armed Guard Tower - AK-47s only works with Vietnam Asset Pack installed (https://github.com/tobi-be/DCS-OH-6A/releases)
  • Armed Guard Tower - if you place a aircraft close to it, it will ignore ground targets and engage the aircraft
  • no destruct model - only the Guard Tower has one

Tetet and crew. Another team that ED should hire.  This is a Awesome addition along with the other Awesome mods you have created. Much need where ED is lacking. Thanks for all the hard work guys, especially Tetet.  

One Question. With this update, does it go directly into the other current version (previous CV Bon Richard, ships, planes) or is this full version of everything included. I ask because some of my fellow flyers are installing this version for the first time. Thanks again for the excellent work.

Thanks for your kind words! This is a full install. You can safely overwrite a previous 2.0.0 or 2.1.0 install. If you have 1.x or 0.x installed, you need to remove the old VWV_<something> named directories as the naming changed to the [VWV] prefix.

In general we name our versions like this: 2.2.0 - major version 2, minor version 2, patch level 0. New major+minor versions are always full packs, and new patch levels always need the last major+minor as a base.So when 2.2.1 might appear, you need 2.2.0 installed. 2.2.1 will only work with 2.2.0, not 2.1.0 or 2.0.0. When the major version changes some breaking changes were integrated and the old major version is not compatible with the new major version.

Hope that's not too confusing.

Can the specialist fix these errors? Furthermore, the file ch46d_rotor_head_front.edm is faulty. Only two rotor blades are rotating. Since the front and back are identical and the rear animation is correct, you only need to make a copy of it, rename it, and then replace the original file. The error will then be resolved.
