DCS: P-51D Debden Eagles Campaign Info

Some of the first American airmen to join the air war over Europe were the volunteers of the RAF’s Eagle Squadrons. In 1942 they were transferred to the Mighty Eighth Air Force under the 4th Fighter Group, based in Debden, Essex. The 4th was the first fighter group to penetrate German airspace, the first to escort bombers over Berlin, and led the first shuttle mission from England to Russia. Under the indomitable leadership of Colonel Don Blakeslee, they became the highest scoring unit of the USAAF, destroying 1,016 enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground.

In this campaign you will join the 4th Fighter Group during the first week following the D-day landings, and relive every mission they flew exactly the way they happened 80 years ago. These were meticulously recreated based on original documents and personal accounts with a keen focus on the finest details, allowing you to firsthand experience what it was truly like to take part in ‘The Mighty Endeavor’, one of the greatest military operations in history.

Key Features:

  • 11 historical missions based on original documents, squadron records, combat reports, and extensive research
  • 5 further cut-scenes based on historical events
  • Detailed campaign documentation and history
  • Realistic briefings and briefing images, including separate PDF mission files
  • Unique kneeboard cards and checklists for each mission
  • Nearly a thousand specially recorded voice-over messages and radio broadcasts
  • Historically accurate custom skins
  • Original period radio broadcasts
  • Encounter reports, and other immersive details

Requirements:

  • DCS: P-51D Mustang
  • DCS: WWII Assets Pack
  • Normandy map (works with 1.5 but better with 2.0)

Really looking forward to this.

I just purchased the campaign, but it shows not up in the module manager.

Open Beta updated, license showing up in my account. All should be just fine.

Any ideas?

Do you have all the required modules? The DCS store and module manager is handled by ED, I have no idea how it works. Reach out to their customer service, I'm sure they can fix it in no time.

Thanks for the campaign!   That first mission is hard to see 😄  Even with the gamma all the way up!  Can't believe they actually did that.  I can't imagine what visibility was like for them.

I know right? The 352nd had a fatal accident that morning in the darkness

Any recommended engine settings or speeds for cruising with the AI in formation?  I'm trying to stick to keeping the engine nice and cool, but can't seem to get the RPM/Boost settings correct for cruising.

as much as required 😉 without overboosting the engine so low rpm + high mp is a no no.

It should be the same as his other campaign “Blue nosed bastards”. Generally you can cruise at 46” and 2700RPM all day long. Then pull back to the green zones when close in. (I think they’re 35” and 2500 rpm)

Thanks for the information!  I just finished Reflected's Beware Beware and am now trying to get my feet under me in this campaign, while still getting the aircraft figured out too.  Thanks for the tips.

My thoughts exactly, i increased gamma, still couldn't see anything and lost my flight after setting course.  I never found them again until i crash landed back at base. inbetween i wandered aimlessly around some part of France, never saw a thing.  only managed a draw despite getting back, but i'm going on to the next mission, this was too hard, but it is what it was back then...

Nevermind gang. I noticed I hadn't updated the game. I thought it was automatic on game load.

Only stable release typically will auto update. Beta you got to do yourself.  And all new things are always released on betas. Such is the DCS Way.

^ Not quite. Both versions update the same way, ie. when launching the game the updater auto-checks for a patch, but only once per 24 hours.

Or we can just manually click the "update" link from Windows start menu, whenever we want any as many times as we want.

In either case, yes, one needs to update to latest OB version anyway.

Our mission briefing was at midnight when we learned we our first squadron would be taking off at  2:00 am with the other two squadrons taking off about 30 minutes later.  It was to be our first night takeoff and the first of three combat missions on that historic day.

Lining up in flights of four wingtip to wingtip in the pitch black darkness, the sixteen P-51 Mustangs of the 486th Squadron pushed their throttles forward at 2 am and in less than 30 seconds we suffered our first tragedy of D-Day.   Lining up in the darkness with no directional visibility, the second flight roared off the big sod field slightly to the right of  their intended direction.  Seconds later, Lt. Bob Frascotti’s P-51 crashed int the new unfinished control tower being constructed on the high point of the airfield,  bursting into flames which lighted the way for the following flights to takeoff.  D-Day did not start well for us.“

This story is exactly what comes to mind whenever I play mission 1. Apparently the first flight knocked out the lights at the end of the runway, so the rest of the group had to rely on their compass. Frascotti made a mistake of a few degrees and "Umbriago" turned into a ball of flame...
