yes, it might be a better idea, but I could not find a left one anywhere. So if  an optical sensor is not used, can you put it back to front on a left hand and reconfigure the buttons?

Of course, I mount it on my left index finger , so the optical sensor points owards, not need to config buttons, only some practice, but if you can't use it there is a program named xmousebuttoncontrol that allows you to reconfigure all the mouse inputs and swap them.

you can find it here

https://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/xmousebuttoncontrol.htm

I have given up waiting for pointctrl... so I have made my own (thanks rafgaj78) at a fraction of the cost... probably no more than £20 for each unit in parts. I no longer need a full pointctrl as the Quest Pro tracks hands. To be fair, I can also emulate mouse clicks with hand gestures and the Quest Pro but found it hit-and-miss. So with this device, I have left-click, right-click, scroll up and scroll down. I could make the buttons do anything with a small adjustment to the software if I wanted to.
If you want to build this, the details are here:

This is a great find, thanks for sharing!

I’ve ordered the parts and will see if I can make one too as, while point ctrl looks great, I don’t have the patience to sit in a queue for that long.

It’s not really for me to sell these as it’s @rafalg78’s design. If he doesn’t mind then I might consider building some but it wouldn’t be at cost.

I am improving the design though. Looking at changing the switches for a single 5-way hat switch with a “hat”. I’m also working on making the code power efficient. The current code will drain a 50mAh battery in an hour. I have it over 5.5 hour now and I expect it will run for longer (I ran out of time to test last night).

I don't mind. My skills to develop the project are limited as I am not a programmer. I'd love to see improvements.

Cool.

I have the battery life-time up to over 18 hours. It’s likely to last longer but for sure that’s plenty!

I haven’t been able to get the device to read the battery voltage despite going by the book on this. There’s a few discussions on the web that indicate that seeed have used the wrong pin to read the voltage of the battery. So the I currently can’t send the predicted battery status indication over Bluetooth.

I’ve modified the design to use a 5-way hat switch and created a cookie hat for it.

Next I’m going to try to create a cover for the board which for me won’t be easy as I’ve only just started to learn 3D CAD modelling.IMG_8264.jpeg

Are you making your code changes and new design public, like the original?

Hi all, just to confirm if I don't have any kind of hand tracking module will this allow me to move the mouse pointer by pointing my hand or is it purely for just clicking the mouse buttons?

I have a pimax crystal so could get the hand tracking module but always found it VERY flakey

Thanks

On its own no. You’ll need something else to track the hands. This only emulates mouse button clicks.

Leapmotion make a device that can track hands.

Thanks, maybe time to try the pimax hand tracking again as the bit that never worked well was actual clicking the button part..

Why? The Quest hand tracking works natively in DCS.

How?

I have the Quest Pro and I don't have hand tracking, or any option to enable.

I tried HTCC but I wasn't able to make it work properly.

Hi, I have the quest pro (almost an year since I have it)...how do I enable hand tracking???

I have never seen such an option, and also I tried HTCC but i was not able to make it work correctly.

As VR controller the floating hand is just stuck upside down and I cannot click on anything...and as touch screen/mouse emulation i cannot press UI buttons without too much movement

Don’t use the options in DCS. You just use HTCC and it will emulate a mouse.

Take a look at the HTCC wiki again. 👍

Yeah, I followed the instructions on HTCC and tried both alternatives (mouse emulation and VR controller emulation) none of that gave me good results (with controller emulation unusable). With mouse emulation i am really unconfortable..it is difficult to reach UI buttons (and you cannot use mouse as your hands will always move the cursor) and also being an XRnecksafer user, when I move my head the visual shifts and so the mouse cursor.
Also Phantom above hinted that could be possible to use hand tracking without external software:

I had a read of the WIKI again...

there is pretty clear that in the menus you are supposed to use a real mouse...but he doesn't say how to do, as If i move my hand to take the mouse then the mouse cursor moves as well....is there some shortcut to disable cursor movement by hands?

No short cut. But you can move your hand up and above your head to disable the hand tracking. Then do the same again to enable it. You can also play around with the field of view tracking area so when you move your hand out of that field of view, it no longer moves the mouse cursor. I can send you my configuration settings later when I’m home if you like as I had to adjust the FOV settings to make it so that I could use a physical mouse as well as hands.

Yeah, I read that on the Fred's Discord, but it doesn't work (He said me that I should hear a beep after some seconds with my hands above head, but I am not)...however just having my wireless trackball strapped on my right leg helped me.

Also, Phantom above is right...in someway and without putting on any changelog, ED added support for native quest hand tracking (maybe they are just using leap motion implementation).

One just needs to enable hand tracking in the Quest OS, and then in DCS's VR tab select trackers instead of controllers.

Just it is difficult to use, as the cursor is really wobbling and I am not able to understand how to operate left/right click on switches and also how to operate rotaries...but you can just move your hands and fingers

It does work. It takes practice. Fine tuning the settings helps a lot. By narrowing the field of view I can use the physical mouse without using the sleep/wake function.

How do you narrow the field of view?do you mean in software or by physically point the headset away from hands?

Registry setting for HTCC. It’s all explained in the wiki.

Thanks again...

I must be dumb, but I don't seem to find that part in the wiki.

I saw registry settings mentioned only in PointrCTRL part...but I don't have PointCTRL
