asurob Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 but want to make sure I can handle the game. Im an avid simmer (for 20 plus years) but I dont have much more then a joystick (with rudder twist). Would I be able to play the game at anything beyond simple mode or does it require all those extras to control the shark? Also, how is the campaign mode? I like campaigns that if I blow a bridge somewhere it stays blown, that sort of thing...(dynamic mode? ie Falcon 4). Thanks in advance.
Lav69 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 You can play BS with the keyboard if you want. Of course having a hotas, pedals and Track IR makes things a lot easier. As for the campaign I don't think its dynamic. I could be wrong though.

I have the logitech extreme pro 3D joystick (with twist) and I can play it fine. With the keyboard and mouse too its awesome. Well worth the purchase! Distiler Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 You can play with that joy, but it will be easier with a HOTAS. No, there is no dinamic campaign. I hope one day we got one. But, fortunatelly, the campaigns shipped are very interesting and inmersive. Shame there is no cooperative campaign mode. Anyway, a must have. 159th_Viper Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Whilst peripherals no doubt aid in gameplay, I would not say that there are 'essential' items needed apart from the Flightstick and 'Throttle' which axis will be mapped to the Collective. So - the answer to your question would be - Go ahead and purchase. You will not be disappointed. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? nemises Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 80% of in cockpit functions are accessed by the mouse anyway..just the flying part that really benefits from a hotas...but a twisty joystic is 90% of what you need for that too...just missing a collective axis, but I know you'll be used to using the KB for that anyway from other sims!. go ahead and buy, it really is the most fantastic modern sim ive ever flown (also have been simming for close to 20 years!)
Santini Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Buy it you won't regret it, I'm using a Saitek 290 purchased from Walmart for $19.95 and having a great time. asurob Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 Thanks guys...downloading as we speak. Hope you're right, haven't picked up a new combat sim in a few years (mostly due to the lack of decent ones out there anymore).
Safari Ken Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 The advice I give to friends buying it, is simply to not be discouraged by the initial learning curve. The eventual feeling of great satisfaction is worth some practice! :pilotfly:

SSneg Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I play with a Saitek Cyborg Evo (simple joy with a twist), and I don't even want pedals. I do want a trackir, yes.. If you live to fly again, it's a successful landing. The plane being able to fly again is just a bonus.
Scooternutz Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I have been simming since 1995 and this sim has breathed new life into my hobby. I have had Black Shark for three weeks now and I am still learning to fly. I have not blown anything up in combat yet. My wife whom has had her ups and downs with my hobby admits she has never seen anyhting like this. It is worth more than what is charged. You will be pleased. EtherealN Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Hey, the Sidewinder is an absolutely awesome stick. I have two but use my Saitek 'cause it's better on my hands. Kaptein_Damli Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I'm using the Sidewinder force feedback 2 Joystick, no rudder pedals here, and it works like a charm ;) Got the same stick too! I actually got two of them as they are hard to find these days! The great old stick is also considered as the best stick to use in IL-2 too! I have Sateik rudder pedals and saitek quandrant throttle + track IR. I do admit I have troubles learning this sim as I am too used to fixed wings! I bough the downloadable russian version at first and now I own the boxed version too. Awesome sim, but lots of stuff to learn. I am also a Falcon 4.0 AF simmer so learning two sims at the same time is hard... I know there is a steep learning curve, but I guess all the learning will pay off sometime! :) My moviemaking channel at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/RobertDamli
muamshai Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Every penny is worth of it. Infact, I reserved finance for A-10 and Ah-64 and Mi-28 and Mi-24 addons :joystick: This space is available for your advertisement
WynnTTr Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 (edited) Maybe you'll fall into the same camp that I did - thinking I didn't need anything other than a joystick to play the game. Then I actually got it. Now look at my sig. The entire machine was pretty much due to BS. Granted BS was an excuse (and a damn good one) to dump my old rig, but I didn't plan on purchasing the peripherals. PS: you really don't need all the fancy stuff to play the game. But I wanted the immersion factor and for that, nothing beats HOTAS/TrackIR. The game was elevated up to a whole new level with a HOTAS, and up to simming heaven with TrackIR. If you decide to get them, you will never look back - in fact you'll wonder how you flew without them. Edited April 19, 2009 by WynnTTr
