maverick90 Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 I am in search of a really beautiful map in terms of landscape, biomes, etc to experience DCS in. I currently have the Nevada, Persian Gulf, and the default Caucus and Marianas but I'm not really feeling them. They lack the visual appeal and variety. I think they're too flat and kind of boring to fly around in. I've seen a few videos of the Syria map and from the looks of it, it seems to be on par with what I'm looking for. But curious to what you guys think about the map compared to the ones that I've mentioned. Sinai also looks pretty good too, but Syria seems to be better. 2
Oceandar Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 I don't have SA, Sinai and Normandy and I think Syria is the most beautiful theater both from high and down low.The FPS used to be not so great at first released but now it has nice FPS. I don't regret purchasing this map. 1 Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power. - Lao Tze

It depends on what aircraft and era you like flying in. The Syria map can be used as is for modern era, and is a great map. However, it can also be used to simulate other eras, such as WW2 desert, Cyprus as Crete, etc. 9800x3d; rtx5080 FE; 64Gb RAM 6000MHz; 2Tb NVME; Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4).
sirrah Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 All very personal of course, but fwiw: I have all maps (except for the ww2 ones) and Syria is my favorite, due to all its details (I like helo ops, so for me ground details are important). Also, I like Syria's diversity (water/sea, forests, desert, large cities) and its potential for historically accurate scenarios. In terms of scenery detail, I'd say Sinai is on par with Syria (the Nile area is also quite green), but imo Syria is just a more interesting map for either accurate, or fictional full blown war type of scenarios SA is also quite beautiful. It just completely lacks content.. PG is nice, but not as detailed as Syria and Sinai. NTTR (imho) is just far too outdated, scenery detail wise. Hiob Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Syria is my favorit map, too. I think it offers the most overall. It is very beautiful in many aspects. Variety is at least on par with all other maps. Normandy 2.0, Paris and London are also very nicely put together, but WW2 is a completely different animal. If I had to settle for one map, it would certianly be Syria. (for now.) 2 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"

Czar66 Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Syria is the best offer for a map in DCS at the moment, excluding WWII maps. If you're flying helos or CAS aircraft like the Warthog. Is an experience above all other maps. 1
Schmidtfire Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Normandy map is hands down the best looking map and has the most detailed mesh (slopes etc). It's almost like a different sim. The sensation of speed (flying down low) is different from any other map in DCS. Even scary at times. Syria is a distant second in terms of visuals to Normandy, but still pretty good and one of the best addon maps. 2

Seriously, is it just me? Otherwise you are right, it’s a nice map. Only problem it doesn’t really suit modern aircraft. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
Glide Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 (edited) Lately, I'm in love with Incirlik air base. It could use some yard work with respect to the redundant fencing about the field. Those polygons are not free. Favorite area of ops on the Syria map? @Schmidtfire Has a point for low level Helo ops, Normandy can't be beat for terrain masking. And this cool pickup truck.
