maverick90 Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 I've been interested in this addon, but have heard people said it's not worth it. I would like to hear from others on here if they feel the same. Is it outdated?
draconus Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 It is what it is. Different people use it for different purposes. I personally like it. You can and should test it for 2 weeks for free. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
Eugel Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 As so often it depends. In many ways it feels half-baked and unfinished. The AI of ground units is lacking, things like transporting troups in ground vehicles doesn´t work properly, units get stuck in very weird places on the maps, etc. And there certainly is no focus on developing that module. Hopefully, it´ll get some love with the logistics overhaul after the CH-47. But that being said, you can still have a lot of fun with driving around in a tank, especially in a group where you don´t rely as much on AI. For the moment though, I would say wait for the next sale.
Caveman655 Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 If you can grab it on sale then its certainly not bad, but for me personally I only use to for screwing around on multiplayer once a blue moon or more commonly to command ground units when I play on a Liberation campaign. 1 very important note though if you are a VR user then it is not compatible with VR at all for directly controlling the units, commanding units on the F10 map works just fine though. 1

Question: Can you command ground units via F10 map while inside an aircraft module/in the air?

Well, it is "compatible" as in: You can drive around with tanks, switch from gunner to driver position and shoot your guns. It´s just not well implemented, there are no "cockpit views", the UI is terrible in VR. it´s just the 2D interface projected in the air in front of you, and the binocular view freaks out (at least for me) But yeah, don´t buy it for the VR experience. 4 hours ago, Czar66 said: Question: Can you command ground units via F10 map while inside an aircraft module/in the air? Yes, you can set waypoints for ground units from within the cockpit of an aircraft on the F10 map. 1 1

Caveman655 Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 There is also some fun to be had with it, like turning the carrier's CWIS on a friend who is about to land. Don't try this on a public server or against a friend who lacks a sense of humor though or things can turn ugly 1
MAXsenna Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 For 20 bucks in a sale. Yeah, I'd say it's worth it. Hopefully ED will put in some effort down the line, and then it's definitely worth it! Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk
Thamiel Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Looks like it. Lately our gamemasters rely on CA units to spice up their PvE missions. Their "little helpers" always seem to have a hell of a time shooting the crap out of us. 1 Modules: A-10CII | F-5E | AV-8B | M-2000C | SA342| Ka-50-III | Fw 190D-9 | Mi-24P | SU-33 | F-4E | F-14B | C-101CC | F-86F | AH-64D | F-16C | UH-1H | A-4E-C | AJS-37 | P-47D | P-51D | Bf 109K-4 | CA | SC Maps: Cold War Germany | Nevada | Syria | Persian Gulf | South Atlantic | Kola | Sinai | Normandy | Channel Setup: Ryzen9 5950X | 64GB DDR4 | RTX 4090 | 2TB M.2 NVMe | TM Warthog & TFRP Rudder | Reverb G2 | OpenXR/TK | Win10 Affiliation: [TM]Tigermercs
cfrag Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Personally, I'm, not all that thrilled with CA: as it was mentioned, VR implementation is half-baked at best (depending on your HMD you can or cannot see the entire interface. When I drive vehicles, I can't see the right nor left side bar - the ones that hold vital information like chosen gear, speed etc). The integration interface IMHO is terrible (completely non-standard even in DCS terms). The simulated driving physics I deem Abysmal (capital "A"). BUT - since the last release of DCS from May 22, 2024, we got a couple of nice unarmed vehicles that almost can make it worth it, even in VR: if you place the loader vehicle close to your plane (or a static copy of if), you can jump into the loader, drive out, and inspect your plane, simulating the 'walk around'. It's fun at least once per module that you own. Is that worth the price of admission? Your call.
