Title says it I guess, how much does DCS hit the internet connection when in single player mode?

Can you play single player DCS on a slow internet (say 100Mbps down, 50 up) even if you've good a beefy computer?  (64mb Ram, 4090)

It has to "call home" when you launch it (to verify your account). If you don't do this step, it will enter "offline mode" and you can only play for a certain amount of time before having to authorize your account.

Single player your internet speed should only come into play when you're downloading updates (or the original game download).  You probably want to verify at launch as mentioned above, but that really doesn't take much bandwidth.

Even MP can be played on fairly low bandwidth connection as long as you have a good ping.  I have a slow connection (took me 24 hrs to download Kola) and the only "problem" with MP is that it takes me longer than others to join the server, but once I'm on I've never had issues (ping usually 40ish).

It took my ISP almost 4 years to fix my internet and I had no problems with SP DCS meanwhile.
Anything that required "always online" was pretty much impossible.

@NineLine

@BIGNEWY

Since somebody brought this up, although I hope it will not be for a very, very, VERY long time (preferably never tbh), I hope than when Eagle Dynamics decides its time to shut down the "phone home" servers we will get a final patch to enable us to play without them.

Nothing should change until the plug is going to be pulled, but I think committing not to leave a "dead" game would be a good message for the industry as a whole.
