anyway yeah, I agree, im not in any hurry to upgrade to track ir 5. I will probably take advantage of the new software though. Im still surprised that they didnt improve the design of the track clip pro, in my opinion that device needs a major design overhaul. They should make it run on lithium batteries or something, I dont even use mine because i dont like having those extra wires attached to my face. I guess im just funny that way. Am I crazy, or is it a major blunder to have those extra wires hogging up an extra usb port, just to power those led's? Curious what you guys think, because I was really dissapointed when I got mine and realized that it was a wired set up.

I just use the vector clip.

I totaly agree with you on this point! Too many wires hanging and every now and then when I turn the wire gets stuck and pulls my headphones and screws up my attack ingame. So, that's why I enjoy flying and playing with hat!

What a pointless upgrade. I thought NaturalPoint after so much time will come up with totally new device that uses a clip with accelerometers or smth, instead of infra-red light tracking that is so failing when you have a sun lit room... I'm kinda dissapointed.

If I'd buy a new one, I would probably go for the TIR5, but I don't see a real reason why to upgrade.

Same is for the new software. Apparently it has no longer an option to work inverted or turned by 90°. I hope this is only a problem of the beta. :(

There's also no preset for linear configuration any longer.

My TrackClip Pro's USB plug also has a pass-through USB recepticle, so it doesn't really use up a USB port.

Additionally Deadsmell if use a headset its pretty easy to "zip tie" the headset wire and Track Clip Wire together then you can plug the headset into the pass thru connector and the TCP into the port. Although I have to admit all of my gear is more or less hard-wired in a sense to my simpit.

EDIT: Also if you were disapointed you have no one else but yourself to blame as NP makes no secret of the TCPs design. It says on the site "USB power tap, with USB pass through". Anything with USB in it would mean wired..............

My new TrackIR 5 just came in the mail. I upgraded from a 4, putting the 4 up on eBay immediately when I received the notice about the 5 and it ended up costing about $50 to upgrade.

My impressions? Well I'm truly amazed at how much better this thing is. It literally tracks every movement I could make. I can't get it stuck anywhere where I would need to recenter. For example I can turn my head around twice and it tracks the whole turn movement. I know you can't do that with the 4 model. Overall, VERY impressed - the stats on paper really do make this a huge jump in models.

4 compared to 5 - thank you :)

Seriously here what those 2 applications use as RAM Track IR 5 is ridiculous on resources!!!!

Track IR 4= 5,228K

Track IR 5= 34,538K

Fly it like you stole it..

Let's not confuse the software with the actual unit. The software is for all models. Also, it's in beta, so you have to give them a little bit of a break on efficiently.

perhaps he was comparing them using the same software? it's not really precisely worded.

it's not that implausible that the ram usage might be higher, since the resolution of the TIR5 is higher than TIR4 (though I disagree with skoiboy[meant theGozr here] that it'll make any kind of difference anyway...).

I had the TIR 4 and now I have the 5. I have used both software on both models, and the software is just a different layout, it really has no functional difference with the basic TIR usage.

As for whether the resolution difference changes things, all I can say is it makes a big difference in actual usage. Disagree if you will, but I have tested both. I would imagine people are going to try to convince themselves that it's not a big upgrade because they don't want to spend the money. That's fine, but in real usage I can tell you the TIR 5 is MUCH better.

nvm, I quote the wrong guy ^^

I meant the Gozr. In that case it makes actually sense since I doubt that it'll make any kind of difference in RAM usage

hey thanks erdem, but i dont think thats the video he was talking about, at least i hope not. You tube says the vid that you linked to above, was posted on the 27th, and the other teaser vid was posted on the 29th, and thats the one that says the full reveal will be posted april 30th. Maybe im misunderstanding.

Bluetooth TIR?! Nah, cable is more reliable, just look at the mouse, cord never freezes while lasers do...

Having used both I have to agree with Skoiboy, the new unit does feel far more precise and accurate in operation.

The design and build quality is far superior and is a major improvement over the MK 4, no more worries of accidental damage to the base or stem. Light filtering issues still exist (to be expected) but have been noticeably improved upon.

Is it worth buying if you are an existing owner of the MK4, then probably not? If you do not own a TIR and are planning to purchase then go for the MK5, there is a £20 difference in the U.K. (R.C Simulations)

The amount of resources used for this Track 5 vs 4 is ridiculous.

I don't understand you, the question has been asked, (read the posts in this thread!) if you looked at the resources with the TIR4 and TIR5 software MINIMIZED? Instead you reply again complaining about the software. Yes, maximized TIR5 uses more memory, but I have news for you, TIR5 software uses about the same or even less memory than TIR4 when MINIMIZED. Give it a try and if it doesn't, say your tried it MINIMIZED, then complain ;)

Am I correct in checking the processes tab in Task Manager for memory usage?

If so then I get following results for a minimised TIR5 in XP:

52,724K

Unfortunately I do not have the MK 4 anymore for a comparision check. I am not overly worried as my system seems to handle it o.k, just mystified why my results are vastly differ from your own Crunch. Maybe I should reinstall the TIR software?

What i find strange is that after using Track IR 5 Software for some time and open and closing the app for different sims it seems that the memory usage goes up with time.. almost like a memory leak.. but i will have to confirm and also you could test it to confirm..

It would be interesting to try Track-IR 5 with the latest Track IR 4 software to see the difference.

Fly it like you stole it..

Axion, yes, we were just using Task Manager for memory usage. 52 MB minimized, eh? Very strange.

Gozr, 23 MB minimized in Vista. Also very differnet from my results. Thanks for your clarification.

Ive got both TIR4 and TIR5 and I whilst I think the 5 is an improvement, it is more so for its aesthetics and build quality that sets it apart.

The v5 software is rubbish and I have reverted back to latest V4 as the zoom is just way to jittery and I tend to look like Marty Feldman after a few hours BS.( I tried for a full day to get it right, but it is a beta so where hoping it improves)

TIR5 with V4 software (latest build) works a treat and I do think it is a shade more smooth than TIR4 but its no massive leap like the hype on the NP website implies.

I needed an additional TIR devise for when I am working away so I bought TIR5 and it wasn't a massive premium over a TIR4 so Im happy but I would not say its something you should buy as a TIR4 replacement as its only a tad more smoother and is hardly noticable in BS, LOMAC or IL2 so that my two bobs worth ;0)
