MI-24 cold start, rotor spinup time.

I've done a simple comparison with the real world counterpart and it seems to me, that the rotor spinup time (which is now a little faster with the newest update) is way too slow. Are there any plans to match the real world counterpart speed ?

Here is the video I made:

Don't get me wrong, this is a great find, but I would still prefer ED to work on more important stuff.

I know it's still in EA, what is still left to be done on this aircraft?

  • Petrovich still needs some work. In some regions, he cannot see targets that are right in front of him.
  • The tail is made of concrete. It shouldn't be.
  • Removing the mirrors does not save FPS

honestly, i use that time to set altimeter & ark frequencies - fits perfectly exactly in time. But i agree, the more realistic, the better. But then ED should us make set the Latitude for alignement by ourself as well, instead of having it preset every cold start.

If realistic, then also the unpleasant things.

Yes, that's true. In Syria, Petro rolls the dice every time whether he wants to see something or not. He doesn't even see enemies who are right in front of him shooting at him. It makes many fights a game of chance, especially vs AAA. Petro also needs more alternative voice lines.

Other than that, the Hind is the best and most demanding helicopter in DCS for me. I would buy it again anytime, i´d even pay for post release upgrades.

I haven’t seen setting Gregen latitude in any start up or pre check sequence. I believe 1/10 of latitude is about 11 km, so I would expect it to be set upon arrival to airbase/FARP. There is many things to do when transferring a bird to a new airfield that maintenance can or doesn’t have to do, such as correcting for local magnetic deviation with the Greben and other things connected to it.

Does temp and baro pressure affect rotor spool up times in a similar fashion as it does with engines? The real-world video appears to be winter. DCS video is spring/summer, and most likely warmer.

Temperature differences only affect when switching off, engine cooling time (1 min in summer, 2 min in winter). When starting up, whether it's summer or winter, we have the same parameter values, the procedure is the same. 20% of engine speed, the rotor starts. And that's enough for me, and how fast it spins up... At the moment of start it will definitely be good. 😉

There are a few little things that could be added to make it even more realistic, but they would not affect the gameplay in any way. Let's not forget that DCS is a battlefield simulator where we focus on something else.

One thing I would like to see more refined is Petrovitch. Most of the time it's just additional ballast, and it could, for example, help with navigation or be more active in detecting targets.
