Hi everyone,

After the latest update I am having this HUGE performance problem which basically causes my FPS to drop massively from a nice and steady 170/180fps to 10fps on units-heavy scenarios. I am on the same exact mission (just with the scripts removed to avoid secondary problems) but somehow after the update the game seems to be unable to handle a big number of units on the map.

I tried to copy/paste only the groups/units using the static template function to a blank mission and run it and I am having the exact same result.

Does anybody else have the same problem? I will run some more tests for now...

Attached you have the screenshot of my performance graphs after pausing the game, where you can see the difference.

EDIT: even after removing all the mods and scripts the performance drop persists. It improved from 10 to 30 fps after the removal of a good number of groups/units.

Think this is true for me too. I thought it was an Afghanistan map issue (around 30-40ish fps), but just coming back to my Syria mission, i get around 20 fps where i usually capped at 60 fps outside bigger cities. I even dropped shadow, MSAA and AF settings to off/low. Caucasus seems to be fine from short testing.

Yep, my mission was on Syria for example

I have had some bad performence with playing on normandy 2 map agains big flights of b17.

Before the patch i had no problem thanks to the MT version but this changed with the patch.

The only thing that makes it work again for me is setting LOD at around 0.2

The new interface for selecting an airplane sometimes causes the game to flashback

In some scenarios with more objects and more complex tasks, the FPS does drop

and the loading time required to open DCS seems to become longer

For me it seems to be when the game becomes CPU bound.

Yes I saw your post and was intrigued by that settings. The thing is though that the CPU becomes overused for no apparent reason and the same exact mission now cannot be handled by the hardware

Yeah, maybe it's the new AI updates?

Not sure, I am noticing a substantial FPS drop also in ME which never happened before. Someone on ED's Discord suggested that it may be that the game is trying to handle more units than there actually are on the map for some reason, but I have no idea tbh

After some more testing it looks like removing the openxr toolkit have resolved my fps problems with big flights.

Maybe someone else can try it ?

You mean remove and re-add?

Sounds like it is over heating I had one go that way.

Came here on my search for what to delete or clean a cache or something.

I tried flying the Kiowa on a MP server and the whole thing truned into a flick-book for me.

Tried test a mission, cold start on a slow moving carrier was the idea. 'Not moving' turned out to be a more accurate description. I hard to force-close DCS it got so locked up. :dontgetit:

I have this issue since the unified version. The exact same mission, a somewhat heavy scenario on Syria, was playable in the last open beta. Now it's not.

I've reported it, along with others, sent logs, dxdiag, etc. The response was 'we're looking into it'. This was 3 months ago.

I just experienced this in the AH-64D.  It started crawling even before I clicked Fly.  I could see the textures were having trouble loading.  I escaped out of the mission, and clicked Fly Again.  The second load seems to work.

Still facing serious problems here!
With no changes made in the settings it is still worse than a slide show so I decided to roll back.
I am having 99-100% GPU useage and literally no CPU useage. Keeps crashing and is totally unable to play, unfortunately.

I hoped to finde some solutions over but as it seems there are multiple different issues to solve.

Cheers

I managed to clear it up on my system.  I turned off all shadows, SSS, SSAO, and SSLR.  I also switched back to low terrain and medium cockpit textures.  I noticed in Vr that a change to terrain textures does NOT force a restart.  Is that a bug with the new launcher?

In one of my AH-64D Syria missions, with 2x AH-64D and 6 Opfor ground units, loading into the sim takes 3 mins, where before it took maybe 10 secs.

Texture loading seems to be causing this.

It’s as if the there isn’t any kind of caching going on, because it’s not just a one time occuring issue, but happens each time I load the mission.

I’ve tried this and no change on performance. I use the phantom mig23 BFM as a bench mark and fps tanks from constant 50 to 7fps. Frustrating to say the least.

I am also having this same issue since the update. Missions I was previously able to play without any issues is now unplayable. After getting into an aircraft’s cockpit my FPS tanks to less then 10. This is happening in both VR and non VR. I tried a fresh install but no luck.

Hey guys just did some testing. So with the most recent update in AI heavy scenarios I get less then 10 FPS. The mission is an unplayable slideshow. I reverted back to 2.9.5 and played the same scenario with perfect frames. So I dont know what the issue is in the new update the is causing this.

So with 2.9.6 it just consistently spikes causing the low frames. Again 2.9.5 is smooth as could be. Both same mission no scripts or anything.

I am also having this problem. Caucasus runs fine, but Afghanistan is unplayable, even though it was fine on the previous update.

I've uploaded my frame counter for a Caucasus mission and an Afghanistan mission. The two have roughly similar unit numbers.

Edit: I should mention that this Afghanistan mission was running fine prior to this latest update. Also, Sinai and Syria are similarly running way worse than they were prior to the update.

Getting similar problems since the last major patch and hotfix, essentially the multithreading isn't multithreading anymore.

It seems to pick the core reported as the fastest (core 2 for me) and the core reported as next fastest (core 6 for me) and then just runs everything on the fastest core pinning it to 100% with the occasional drib and drab on the next fastest core while ignoring all the others.

If I use affinity masking to disable the fastest core  it just 100% s the second fastest core instead and so on down the line, performance is effectively ruined and the game reports itself cpu bound on the main thread and then the render thread intermittently dropping frames and stuttering like crazy with each swap between the two states.

It's not just me either and AMD cpus without 3dvcache seem to be the common denominator among people I've spoken to

Hi all,

if you are having issues please attach your dcs log for our dev team.

Please ensure you are using multithreading DCS
