My game has become completely unplayable since the last 2 update, constant freezes and crashes, I use lots of unofficial Mods and to be honest if I could not use them I would not play the game in its vanilla format.

Which is pretty much where I am right now, pondering other gaming options, which are not great as we all know.

That's not ED problem of course, I understand that fully, but its a shame because I have enjoyed 15 years of fun with this.  To be no more I fear.

Regularly: Ov-10, Mig-23ML.

 Less often: Mig-31. Su-17.

I'll get into the OH-6, SK-60, and A-4 when the flight models are updated.

Looking forward to the AH-1G, Ka-52, Yak-38

Not sure how to get the Alphajet! Might get the JF-7 someday specifically so I can use the J-10...

I fly several of VSN jets, plus use the Civil Aircraft Mod and Military Aircraft Mod for background air traffic. The recent DCS update forced me to upgrade my DCS drive to 2 TB, in order to have installed both DCS 2.9.5 and 2.9.6 ... I mostly fly on the latest DCS, but launch 2.9.5 whenever I want to fly a VSN aircraft, or I need to run the LUA Console of DCS-BIOS.

@Rudel_chw how do you easily launch 2.9.5? is there a way to do that?

I employ a standard windows shortcut, with these properties for each:

Here you can see the folders where I have both DCS programs, and also two separate Saved Games folder for each, I use the DCS_variant.text file to specify the name of the Saved Games folder for the 2.9.6 version. I run the DCS.exe rather than DCS_Updater, to avoid automatic DCS updates, I update DCS when I really want to, using a command prompt in admin mode.

I could’ve posted this myself almost word for word. The past two have me wondering if this is the milestone too. MP’s reduced to snapshots followed by crashes almost every time I try it.

I can’t upgrade what I have hardware-wise but I knew that when I started. I didn’t know how much I’d be drawn into it though and now look. I’ve only had a couple of years of it though. I won’t afford an all singing and dancing ‘DCS computer’ for a while unless a lot of things change direction for me. As it is I can still fly SP fine but I just haven’t for a while now. I’ve been cracking up laughing in MP too much. As it is that means rebooting, clearing everything I can think of out and trying again, and again and again.

Mods pack out DCS so well and where they come from, how they come about and the way people help each other out make them that bit better to me in a lot of ways.

I plot various mods for SP ‘missions’, half of which are just so I can experiment with it all. I’m still regularly surprised at the stuff that’s about and I think ED are missing a trick by restricting some the way they seem to. The work Modders have to put in after each update must make them more nervous than I am at every sniff of another one.

I fly the OH-6A thanks to Tobi & Eightball, the T-45 thanks to VNAO and the Avro Lancaster by Scoobyon and the Lancaster team.

Admittedly, the Lanc I can only fly in my imagination for the minute but the other two are the dogs hairy clackers and most definitely can be flown already. 🙂

I only hope I can still fly em in the future. MP servers, AFAIK will update to the latest DCS but if I wanna carry on in SP with sensible performance (and unbroken mods) I might have to look at installing older versions like Rudel has?

I was flying the Bell UH-1M as well but don’t any more as I have the DSC UH-1H Huey so didn’t see much point.

I liked the JAS 39 Gripen but had to uninstall it due to it creating issues, with it installed I was losing all my carriers and other Navy vessels so I couldn’t do any carrier operations with my F/A-18C.

Out the VSN I would use the following:

A-29B Super Tucano

Eurofighter

F-4E Phantom

F-14A/B

F-16 (C52) (several variations included)

F-35

F-18F (several variations included)

Harrier

Mirage M-2000 (one of my favourites)

Hawker Hunter (both the MK6 and TMK68)

Tornado

Other’s no longer working:

Grinelli F-22A

MQ-9 Predator Drone

Spino F-15EX (another favourite)

Stand Alone which still work:

A-4E-C Skyhawk Community Mod

Anubis C-130 Hercules

MH-60R (modded from the Blackhawk)

OH-6A

OV-10 Bronco

Su-57 Felon (works with the new stand alone download)

UH-60L Blackhawk

After that there’s all the maps, upgrades,, super carrier, helicopters and aircraft I purchased from ED, so not like I don’t support them.

If the survey was about 'do you or don't you' fly/use third party mods then having 'none' would be a sensible answer. However the point of the survey is specifically about using third party mods, look pretty stupid saying to ED 'I don't use mods so I demand you fix nothing'

sure isn't, but to be good data on how the community feels about unofficial modules we can't just remove options we don't like.
Let me be clear, I was a modder for DCS before I even owned my first module, I am very pro-mods - but the data should still represent a possibly large portion of players if the intent is community representation and not just popularity contest.

we all know 2.9.6 broke a ton of critical systems, it needs fixing. (heck even events don't work right, in several different ways)

I will post another survey to gather community data and the use of "unofficial" mods in general. This one is still cooking.

I thinks this is a good mix. But, thought a lot more people were flying the EX.

They are, most people find it too much effort to click on a box. When you look at the amount of people complaining about stuff then only a handful fill in a survey like this.

Ya, I don't understand why there is so much complaining. I mean, I get that the sim can be flaky at times. ...and yes, i can get pretty expensive so a little rebuttal is justified. But, I would much rather work with ED and mod devs to get this game running the way the community thinks it should. Bitching and whining really gets you no where.

I wish, still trying to figure out what was going on with that.  The screenshot I posted was taken before the FC2024 update broke the mod as it previously existed.  This is currently what we're dealing with.

Well we have it working now. I've been Beta Testing the F-15EX.

Also, the F-22A is back on the board.

I guess my question is what's causing the issue with Mods now? Do the issues have a commonality which is the root of the problem?

I don't use many flyable mods. Mainly the A-4E and UH-60L. But I use several AI mods for eye candy and those seem to be causing problems too.

and Sorting out which are causing problems and which aren't is challenging when it seems some mods work fine alone but break when mixed with other mods.

Yesterday around 23 of the VSN mods were updated and available for download to test. I tested the following VSN which seem okay at the moment. Things like the landing gear, flaps and weapon lauching problems all seem to be solved now:

Eurofighter Typhoon

F-4E Phantom II

F-14A, F-14B and F-14D

F/A-18F

Hawker Hunter MK6

Mirage 2000

Panavia Tornado

The CubanAce Su-57 Felon has it's own cockpit now and works with the latest update, need to select the bottom download that requires no mods:

The F-22A Raptor by GrinnelliDesigns works now, need to download v3.0:

The F-15EX by Spino is also fixed as well, needs to be v1.8.7:

We´re on the same boat. I use a ton of mods and scripts (RAT as example) and getting performance issues (VR) lately, flying DCS vanilla is not for me. I have random air traffic in all of my missions, changing for empty skies is a real bummer.

About carrier ops: "The younger pilots are still quite capable of holding their heads forward against the forces. The older ones have been doing this too long and know better; sore necks make for poor sleep.'
