Maybe read the thread there? The guy posted the converted textures.

Optimisations will happen during early access, the team are working through many task currently, we all need to be patient.

thank you

Update: After today's patch, the performance in-cockpit is still pretty bad. FPS in the high 50's for me in the cockpit. In external view, I'm getting 100+. Tried lowering the "in cockpit displays" option to the lowest resolution (512), and that made no difference. I would try the optimised textures discussed in this thread, but that would break IC, unfortunately.

Did anyone notice improvements? Seemed the same to me.

Corsair Dominator DDR4 32GB 3200MHz, EVGA RTX 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra Hybrid, Acer Predator XB271HU WQHD IPS Monitor, Logitech G510S, Anker 8000DPI Gaming Mouse, HOTAS Warthog, Thrustmaster TFRP Pedals, Track IR 5, Windows 10 Professional, https://www.youtube.com/c/iflyflightsims

It's actually worse than it ever was for me. Unless the optimised textures help me, like they did before. I have to shelve this module. In Afghanistan, I get <1 FPS now down low. And it's not only the Chinook. If can get airborne and away from the airports, it's okayish. Will try Syria tomorrow.

Edit: Tested the reduced textures. Performance went up by 30 times. Go figure.

Same here: I tried the NTTR runway start IA mission yesterday (mainly to adjust head position now that we have pilot models), and I noticed I was just 500MB under my VRAM cap. And that’s just in NTTR with nothing else in view. On a recent map such as Afghanistan I’d be multiple GB over the 16GB limit of my graphics card 🙄

Funny that Orbx developers mentioned earlier that ED enforces strict VRAM limits and that’s why the Kola map looks so much worse than people expected, and yet don’t abide by their own rules for the CH-47…

I'll try that mission. I only have 11Gigs of VRAM. 🤷🏼‍♂️

EDIT: Got good performance, but yet, there are no assets in the mission.

No, I am having nothing but issues with it, even after the latest patch. 30/9/24

Can go from 60fps in absolutely any aircraft to 2fps in Ch-47 as soon as I switch to it.  It completely tanks my headset.

Been through every tip and trick on the internet and nothing. Honestly, I'm about done with DCS. They insist on adding new stuff rather than fixing what is wrong with the sim.

excuse the poor quality and the team mates in the back ground. But this was recorder through the lens of my Q3. complete slide show. Had just done a run in the A10 without issue.

Just to clarify, It doesn't matter the map, or how busy the mission, can be on an empty airfield on caucs and the same

I am not entirely sure what to make of the performance issues with this module. For me it seems to come and go which is even weirder. Sometimes it runs ok, other times it halves my frame rate. All in the same mission.

I have made some very large missions with multiple units, even newer units like the F4 and it still runs fine. I have 16g of VRAM and it is ALWAYS maxed out running DCS and it does not tank the frame rate until I use the CH47. Even using an empty map. Even though I think it is ludicrous to use the texture fidelity they do for the newer modules, I am not sure that is the entire cause of the performance issues. It is hard to say for sure.

I have not had a chance to test the new update, but I hope to have some time today. I was hoping to see an improvement, but after the above comments, I am not very hopeful.

You should try the optimise textures trick. It optimises textures in Coremods and Bazar too.

Well, I can say it runs worse now for me as well. Probably the new Pilot/crew models just compounding the issue.

I tried the optimized textures and it did seem to help a bit, but performance is still pretty piss-poor. I think there is more involved here. My DCS logs have thousands of entries about controls...

2024-10-02 19:39:39.060 DEBUG   LuaGUI (Main): Input:    Profile[CH-47F] key command[PDP2, LIGHTING, PDP/MAP Circuit Breaker (E12) - PULL] for device[Mouse] has different name from command[PDP2, LIGHTING, PLT SLT FIL Circuit Breaker (E11) - PULL] for device[Mouse]

Pages upon pages of the above.

I think I am just going to shelve this and hope this just needs more time to cook.

Do not confuse allocation with usage re: vram. DCS will allocate all the vram immediately. But actual usage will vary a good bit, and the chinook remains an absolute hog for vram.

Though vram alone likely isn't the only reason the Chinook is a performance hog mind. I think ED found a relatively good sweet spot for visual fidelity vs performance with the Hind (and even then it wasn't exactly light on the system), every ED release since they seem to be pushing things too far or optimising too little.

So where are we at with the optimizations?

Why can't we, the customers, get the options to reduce the texture sizes (4k to 2k) and a medium LOD? Ya know, like Heatblur did with the Phantom to make it more system friendly.

They did? I guess I missed that. I've used the texture resize script, and gained better performance the past updates myself.

Check the Special Options for the Phantom.

Hi,

I'm having real problems in VR (quest 3) with the ch-47, since it launched.

I have almost all modules and have tested in many maps but as soon as the full cockpit model loads in my FPS are very low (mostly below 10) in both single player and multiplayer, and often leads to game crashes. I feel like it may have something to do with all the digital screens in the aircraft. The in game performance even in the Apache is good and I can often get full 72 fps (on 72hz mode on the quest 3).

I'm running an overclocked i7-13700k and rtx 4080 and 64gb ram.

The DCS log is attached. Any suggestions are appreciated (I have attempted things like lowering cockpit display resolution but with almost no effect).

Many Thanks

Nathan

I experience similar issues on a PC that is similar to yours. One of the biggest solution I have found is being sure the nvidia drivers are current. This solved 90% of my stuttering problems.

While seething with envy to your specs, I found out that one setting for my (much lesser) rig did wonders in VR (and VR only): I found that setting LOD Switch Factor to 0.4 immensely boosted fps (but I'm also running on lowered settings for many other settings, and my max FPS is fixed at 45, half of my HMD's refresh -- running a Vive Pro 2)

VR FPS has been reported as extremely poor in the Chinook, already. We've been assured they're looking at optimizations, but unfortunately nothing has been passed to us to allow it to be played.

Hi,

Can I ask you to do a mission with the CH-47F and then attach the fresh dcs log from that session.

thank you

Hi BigNewy - thanks for your response!

I'm almost a bit embarrased to send it as weirdly I did both a single player and a multiplayer mission just now, and my FPS were better than I have ever had in the 47 - must have known i'd been moaning about it and got itself into gear haha. There were some fps drops and i'd say the average fps was slightly lower still than on other aircraft, but as i'm sure you'll see in the log i was getting 36 and above at times so was a lot better than the sub 20s I had been getting before. I dont think I had adjusted any settings before hand either.. so not sure whats helped!

Log is attached 🙂

Many Thanks

Thank you for the log,

I dont see anything obvious in the log that may help.

It maybe worth removing the unofficial mods, deleting metashader2 and fxo folders and allowing DCS to create new ones.

DLAA might be worth a try to see if you notice a difference.

I have asked the team about more optimisation again, hopefully something can be done to help.

thank you
