DCS Launcher as Disk Manager (for disk free space)

Recently, the size of DCS is constantly growing. There are people who have also stopped buying new maps because of the space DCS takes up on their disk (for me it's about 1TB, and I'm sure that after Iraq + Germany, updates of current maps and some new modules in 2025 it will be 1.5TB or more). In some cases I've even seen posts that people were unable to install the update. The situation is unlikely to change, and disk capacity will continue to increase.

The solution may be relatively simple. Today DCS is installed and contains everything in its folder + Saved Games. However, the Launcher should also work as a client, the user should be able to divide the installation, for example, into different disks. This way you will get rid of the problem that someone has no more space on 1 disk. This way someone could have DCS core on one disk, modules on another and large maps on the third. Something like the ORBX Central client, or even partly Steam (games on different discs). Some programs for MSFS, such as MSFS Addons Linker, also work this way.

Please think about this option for Launcher as Disk manager too.

Fortunately, the storage price has a tendency to decrease over time ... yes, I know that a year ago the trend reversed, but on the long haul the price should keep diminishing:

I personally bought a 4TB NVMe drive right after the release of Kola, when I found out that there would still be seasons. It will probably be enough for a while, but there is no guarantee 😉 . And what about when the spherical earth comes out!

I replaced my 1 TB unit with a 2 TB, for around us$140, and then sold the old unit for 60 bucks, so the net cost was just 80 dollars… my peace of mind is worth much more, so I didn’t mind the expense.

Thanks for bringing this up. I would also like to see the option to store maps on a different drive.

Currently have a 1 TB drive only for DCS and it occupies 521 GB and I do not own Kola, Channel or Afghanistan. I have another 1 TB SSD with additional 700 GB free space which could be used for maps.

You of course know it can be done in Windows, right?

While I agree completely with OP. It's time there's a native supported way to do this through the game settings. Could be part of the module manager, like Steam does it with libraries. 👍🏻

A year ago Solid state was at a market low.

They are slowly returning to that low, but doubt it will get to that cost per chip again, they purposely decreased the memory production to not have an over-supply again.
