In an ideal world someone would create for example a Da Nang mod, basically a stationary carrier that looks like terrain. Not sure how well this works though, I know Hawkeye has put Malta and other islands together. Unfortunately I know nothing about getting terrain data from the 1960ies. 1

Great, thanks. Unfortunately Into the Jungle requires these jurassic mods. I wouldn't ask otherwise. I wish missions would only use most recent mods like Current Hill. The mods required by the mission all work. I would have removed from the mission and posted an update had a mod broken it. I argued against these two specific boat mods from the beginning but gave into the wishes of my group. What sold me on including ended up being the argument that it's easy to remove. While it is (less than 30 seconds to do so) I argued there would be people who would simply complain instead of removing the "offensive" mod (by asking how or searching the forum for the answer). @Rudel_chw - thanks for linking. 1 System Specs: Spoiler Callsign:Kandy Processor:13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K - RAM: 64GB - Video Card: NVIDIA RTX 4090 - Display: Pimax 8kx VR Headset - Accessories: VKB Gunfighter III MCG Ultimate, VKB STECS Standard, Thrustmaster TPR Pedals, Simshaker JetPad, Predator HOTAS Mounts, 3D Printed Flight Button Box Video Capture Software: Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), Video Editing Software: PowerDirector 35 Into The Jungle (MP Mission) F18: Scorpion's Sting Apache Campaign - Griffins Kiowa Campaign - Assassins

For anyone who might not know what I'm talking about, I crafted a PSA in the ME section of the forum. See link below. BTW, I didn't figure this out on my own. Some kind soul posted the how to years ago. It was easier for me to simply re-create the wheel and put it somewhere people might look. Of course, in two weeks it'll be buried and unless folks know how to search, it'll be lost to all but those willing to dig a little. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/380918-psa-how-to-load-a-mission-when-you-dont-have-a-required-mod/ Edited 1 hour ago by Mistermann 1 System Specs: Spoiler Callsign:Kandy Processor:13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K - RAM: 64GB - Video Card: NVIDIA RTX 4090 - Display: Pimax 8kx VR Headset - Accessories: VKB Gunfighter III MCG Ultimate, VKB STECS Standard, Thrustmaster TPR Pedals, Simshaker JetPad, Predator HOTAS Mounts, 3D Printed Flight Button Box Video Capture Software: Open Broadcaster Software (OBS), Video Editing Software: PowerDirector 35 Into The Jungle (MP Mission) F18: Scorpion's Sting Apache Campaign - Griffins Kiowa Campaign - Assassins

For all the brilliant work done to make the modern Marianas feel like the Jungle (and as many have said, that work paid off massively - it is so immersive), my impression is that the WW2 makes for a better base. I dunno if you guys have access to data on how people actually play I2J (maybe @SPOOKY 1-1 does from his server?), but it always felt natural to me to use the OH-6A and OV-10. It seemed like they were the kind of light all-rounders which were really well suited to the I2J mission and vibe. I'd be inclined to keep the experience focused on that kind of gameplay. There are other options which were awesome to have - carrier-based A4-E for 'heavy' strikes/if I felt like spooling up a jet was a prime one - but I for one barely used the large airfields on the modern map apart from the occasional sight-seeing flight. Partly due to the performance hit (not major, but noticeable), partly for the increased transit times, but mostly cos I spend my time in I2J down in the weeds I totally see that people might want the F4, F5, F104 etc too, but as long as there's a way for them to be present (even if that's just a reminder to use reduced fuel loads and the full length of the runway) then then WW2 map seems to offer the most. Side note: Speaking of @SPOOKY 1-1, didn't he put together an ITJ modpack to avoid the trouble of finding some of these older assets...? Edited 3 hours ago by Tonker Sp! Nah, I've only just met 'er...:pilotfly:
Mistermann Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago @Tonker WHY do you feel WW2 map makes for a better base? Please provide some objective observations. Given the WW2 map requires a complete overhaul of scripts, I'm really not inclined to spend a hundred+ hours updating/rewriting/testing without a darn good reason. Also, I just don't get a jungle vibe from WW2 Marianas. It feels like going backwards if I'm being honest about it. 57 minutes ago, Tonker said: Side note: Speaking of @SPOOKY 1-1, didn't he put together an ITJ modpack to avoid the trouble of finding some of these older assets...? IDK. If he did he's likely violating T&C of mod authors by hosting and redistributing. Kandy and I have been tossing the decision around to stick with the modern-day Marianas or the WW2. Just flew Guam for a decent amount of time to test it out. Seems like there is a lot more jungle down there. I would love to hear from the community. What feels more like the Jungle? What we have done with the modern-day Marianas or the way the WW2 map looks? Downsides to the WW2 version is it limits us from ground fixed wing like the Phantom or F-5. We can get the Bronco out there for sure, but any fighter/bomber will be difficult with WW2 fields. Thx for the Reply. If i understood: Mariana WW2 doesn't allow to add to the mod planes like the F-4 F-5 A-4E? If you keep then improving the mod on the mariana modern version, is it possible to add more trees to increase the trees density?

I have heard this on numerous occasions. I have to put the video together yet, but these were 2 of the several suggested riverine boats I was going to suggest the VWV guys made. I would much rather see these tied into their mod under one hat than having to go locate and keep up with an individual mod. I will get a video out soon to VWV team, but I know they are currently focused on AI aircraft (AWESOME and support this!) Looks like the future of the mod is healthy and would be wiling to bet we might see them down the road in the mod. 2 hours ago, Tonker said: For all the brilliant work done to make the modern Marianas feel like the Jungle (and as many have said, that work paid off massively - it is so immersive), my impression is that the WW2 makes for a better base. Appreciate the kind words. I was curious how many others might miss the fighters. I would agree with you Kandy, Zipper and I spent most our time in the weeds with the helos or the Bronco. I was on Voodoo's server one time and they were rockin the F-5's. I feel like I flew the Phantom the most because its my baby, but I could see the WW2 map without it. To Kany's point though, there is TON of scripting on his end if we were to do that. I am going to bait him into flying guam with me on the WW2 map and get his opinion, but it is to early to make promises yet. Appreciate and encourage all the feedback the community can give. 4 minutes ago, f14f15f16f18 said: Thx for the Reply. You can add the aircraft to the WW2 map but the runways were small and meant for WW2 aircraft, not jets. You do not have a true paved runway which to me would absolutely kill the immersion. That said, not for the C-130, Bronco, or in the future, the Skyraider. Those could all fly from dirt fields. To my knowledge, there is no way to add trees. Years and years ago I vaguely remember someone turning the Caucus trees into Jungle trees. I am not sure how they did it but I think that mod dies many moons ago.
