I have newly installed DCS on my new PC and with maxed out graphics It's running a smooth 120fps...most of the time. But sporadically the game has heavy stuttering and the fps drop to the teens for a second or two. This seems to happen more frequently when switching camera modes or performing heavy maneuvers. It's quite jarring and has even caused me to crash before.

This happen to anyone else? Hoping for some tips or tricks to stop this from happening.

UPDATE: I caught one of the stutters in my screenshot

Please attach your "C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS\Logs\dcs.log" file (might just be a text document named "dcs" if your Windows is hiding file extensions). Make sure you've loaded all the way into the game and replicated the issue and not just the launcher.

If HAGS is set to on - give it a try and set it to OFF. On my rig every single game is performing way better with hags turned off.

Where the hell is hags? Thanks.

System settings in Windows. Go to the graphics settings and its "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling".

@sleighzy beat me to it. Just added screen grabs, and add DCS.exe application for "High performance" while you're add it!

I have horrible stutters specifically when flying Channel in the Mosquito, at higher graphics settings, in 2D. Which is quite bizarre because the exact same flight in VR was smooth as butter, and the same high graphics settings in 2D do not cause stutters in any other maps or modules.

I am have the same freeze/stutter issue. I turned off HAGS (was ON) and un parked all cores. Attached is my log. There where 2 big spikes and 1 small one. Game updated today 12/14/24.

EDIT: Watching the CPU usage in resource monitor and I am using around 80% cpu. When the Stutter/freeze happens CPU usage drops to 20% for about a second or so. Only happens when in the modules not within main menus.

I9 12900k, 4090, 128g DD4, 2G NVME.

dcs.log.old old log file was before parked core disabled. Same stutters/freeze x 3.

Thanks for that, turning that off has cured the 1 to 2 second freezes which were randomly spoiling my normally smooth VR flights. 👍

It's weird.. I wiped my machine and installed a new ssd.  After reinstalling dcs and my pimax software..dcs has been randomly performing very poorly.

I9 14900kf, 64gb ddr5 6000 , rtx 3080.

2d I'm getting 300fps..but random frame and cpu spikes down to 10fps in the main menu.

In vr the spikes make the game unplayable.

I turned off hags, have exclusions in defender, made sure cpu isn't parked.  Dcs set to high priority.  At first I thought the mouse polling issue was back because the spikes were especially bad when moving the mouse on the screen.. changed polling rate to 500mhz..but it didn't seem to help.

It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen often.  Sometimes if it happens, I can close dcs, then relaunch and it won't happen for the entire session.

When I'm getting constant frame spikes, I go into task manager and can see that my cpu is only running at 30%.  It's only impacting dvs, and not any other game.. so frustrating.

Maybe you could test the following:

- deactivate hyperthreading

- set threaded optimization to OFF within the nvidia controll panel

let's not discuss windows or hardware settings. We 'all' noticed this since the last update. The root cause is in the (full and complete) change log. Something for ED to figure out.

I didn't.

I did experience a heavy drop in performance in the remastered F-5E, though.
