New to Heli's on the Sim, i purchased a month ago the Apache, ive set the Hotas settings as the Chucks Guide (i think) when i go to take off i just spin round when i add power, almost like the tail rotor isnt doing what its meant to or somethings not setup correct, please ask me the questions and ill try and provide the answers. below are some of the settings ive input along with the Axis settings have been setup as per the chucks guide

How much left rudder are you applying when you take off?

These days, I can almost lift off with nearly no left rudder at all.

Page 27 of the Early Access manual is a great resource for understanding your inputs, and verifying them, so you can see how your controls are interacting with the helicopter.

First, make sure you are at full RPM.

Second, slowly increase collective until helicopter starts to wiggle and then use as much rudder as you need to keep nose pointing in desired direction.

You can not just yank collective and expect to get airborne in good order. Also, for start, try to fly with no weapons and around 50% fuel. Lighter helicopter will make it easier.

One thing people seem to get confused about is that to keep your nose in one direction does not mean that rudder needs to be neutral. You will always need to push more or less of power pedal(power pedal is the one that fights helicopter's tendency to rotate in opposite direction of it's own main rotor). In this case, it will be left one.

All this being said, if you are just learning how to fly helicopter, you took the wrong bird. It's kinda akin to learning how to drive a car in a F1 bolid.

For pure basics, you can take Huey on trial for 2 weeks. That should be enough time to get the basics down.

...at first you need to know that the powerlever for flying has to set to FLY. And leave it there. Not moved during flight.

Looking at your binds, you have the left half of your WH throttle setup for the collective, and the right half is your engine throttles?  Then presumably you are only moving the left half when you want to pull on the collective?

It may be easier to not control the engine throttles with your WH HOTAS, and instead move the throttles in the cockpit with your mouse during startup and shutdown, the only time you really need to mess with them. This way you can rest your hand on the HOTAS properly and access all the buttons with your fingers and thumb.

Im not at my pc atm, how as a jet pilot ive my throttles are linked, i didnt split the throttle so ive been pusshing the throttle forward. So power and collective at the same time. Ill have a look tomorrow and reference all of these comments

Think i may try the Huey aswell. However in life ive never learnt to walk first. Ive always ran first with most things and worked back haha

I have a Warthog and T-rudders too. The 2-cockpit Apache can be complex to bind. You can have a look at my bindings here if you like for some ideas. Coming from jets, I still push the hotas throttle forward to add collective so I don't mess up my muscle memory when I fly jets. The helo's throttle or power is something you leave alone when set, unlike a jet's throttle. I used to bind it to the little grey lever on the Warthog throttle base. But for me, that lever loses calibration often for some reason. So check that you are getting the full range in that axis if you are using it. I think keyboard bindings for the throttle are more reliable. You don't need to touch the throttle if starting the helo hot as it would have been set correctly already, only when starting cold will you need to turn it in accordance with procedure. Finally, if you are new to helos in general, I recommend learning about them from a playlist I compiled here. I find the topics very informative and interesting.

Don't use the Rz axis for the throttle, which said previously must be at "FLY" position that is full, use the cursor of your Hotas Throttle instead and when both engines are started push it to FLY and forget it there until you come back to the parking for shut down.

I've had this behaviour when I'd just set up the bindings and forgotten that I hadn't reversed my collective axis.  When the flight first loads, the virtual collective is correctly sitting in the down position, but as soon as I move the throttle lever back, just slightly from what would effectively be the max position, the control synchronises and instantly goes from zero collective to almost max collective.  That causes a fairly "exciting" few moments, which may not be recoverable.

Whether your throttle lever/collective axis is reversed or not, just make sure that the physical lever is where it should be for zero collective, when loading the flight.

Just out of interest, I use the throttle friction slider on my Warthog throttle for the engine power, so that I can leave the two throttle levers together, making all of the controls on the throttle handles more easily accessible.  At engine startup, I just use the keyboard shortcuts or mouse to move the two virtual power levers into idle, as necessary, and then push the slider fully forward.  Once it is in fly, I can just largely forget about it.
