Here's hoping that Radeon really fulfills its promises this time and sorts out their eternal driver problems (which are even worse for wargames). Only fierce competition can force Nvidia to become more consumer friendly again. I love the Nvidia GPUs because they have the better features (DLSS, Frame Generation), lower power consumption and much better drivers. They just work. But they've become so greedy that - if it goes on this way - I will change to team Red eventually. Just like Doner Kebab shops in Germany, Nvidia really used the pandemic to enforce significant price increases.

Also: the RTX 5070 still has only 12GB of Vram? What a joke!

Yup even 16GB for the 5080 is not enough: people will find that out the hard way - even if it's a few years down the line.

i'm waiting for some rasterizing benchmarks. They seemed to do a great job of avoiding that topic during the release

If you consider inflation the price increase from the 4090 to the 5090 is only about $100. Although that’s another $100 towards what’s already a very expensive card. Such is life…

Considering inflation, cost of PCB, cost of VRAM, and cost of silicon, MSRP is in line with 4090 pricing when it launched.

That being said, nvidia markup is still significant....I have no link as I can't recall where i heard this (may have been MLID) but nVidia margin on 4090 was something like 60%. Not sure if anyone has any documented figures.

I think this graphics card will not deliver better performance until the 'CPU overload' is fixed (by spreading the frame generation and other workload over more CPU cores /make it more efficient). In VR: the final FPS is mostly limited by the rendering process in the CPU, not the GPU.

Well the price for anything is what the market will bear, not the materials and such. There’s probably $1 of actual materials in the card    Lucky for us we probably all own Nvidia stock somewhere…

They're repeating the 4000 series launch: "Up to 200% gains in performance over the 3000 series cards" *

* but only when using some new bs AI tech that will make image quality worse and we won't allow in older cards so you can't directly compare

Yeah sure pay thousands of dollars for 10-20% theoretical performance increase just to be still CPU limited

Technically you're not paying thousands of dollars for 10-20%. At worst, it's 10-20% improvement over 4090, which on a secondary market you can easily sell for $1200+ today. So worst case you're paying $600-800 for 10-20%; more realistically you're paying that for 20-40%.

The latest rumor is that the B200 systems are not selling as well as expected, so Nvidia moved lots of production capacity to the 50-series, and have recently supplied a lot of chips to AIBs. Production and shipping of the cards takes at least a month, so if the rumor is true, we should see lots more supply and thus dropping prices around the end of March.
