What's your mission then? What exactly you want to achieve apart from annoying all the others who do have a problem?

My "mission" would be to try and help to identify what might be causing the issue.  My secondary objective would be to inform whoever is looking into it that it isn't happening to everyone.  I am certainly not engaged in a campaign to annoy anyone.

Over and out.

Pimax Crystal User.

Can confirm, day or night in VR the iflols lights are a ball of green with the ball totally lost in the green glow, making the iflols useless without the overlay.

Also, sorry to add a sidebar, but are the lights still only calibrated for the 18 and not the 14?

Last time I trapped the Tomcat (maybe 2 months ago?) the ball was calibrated for the Tomcat.

are there any plans to allow us to change the brightness of the overlay if we arent going to change the IFLOS brightness? still too bright in VR for me...but id compromise and be very happy if the overlay brightness could be adjusted. its too bright for case III

This is a great example of why I have 2 installs of DCS on my PC.  It's a fantastic product overall, but a bit of a polka dance with each new release; 2 steps forward, 1 step back.  I just updated my 2nd version to the latest release and wow, the IFLOLS is unusable, and actually distracting (at least for VR, even in the daytime for me with "bloom" deselected).

I flew Tomcats and Super Hornets in the Fleet until 2004.  Getting the brightness of the meatball and datums right was a big deal.  The LSO's would give it their best guess, and as it got darker outside, they would make it dimmer and dimmer.  Often, they would ask the pilot who just landed how the brightness was for his/her approach, and then they would make adjustments accordingly.  This was mostly an issue during and shortly after sunset - obviously once it was full dark, no further adjustments were necessary.  I'm sure a brightness slider for the datums and ball would require some effort, but time well spent IMO.

Small suggestion for extra realism while I think about it.  Having sparks fly from the tailhook at night would be super cool.  When it contacts the deck, sparks would go everywhere.  We always referred to a taxi 1 wire as the "sparkle one" arrival.  Good times...

Keep up the great work ED!

The problem is, you can't control the brightness of the ball and the landing area separately, since both use the same halo texture at the moment. You can either have good LA lights and an overly bright ball or a good ball and a barely visibile LA at night. I guess ED tried to tweak the textures to find a good middle ground but it doesn't really work out, hence all the legit complaints here. I hope they will choose the right way and rebuild the SC models to allow for separate and dynamic brightness control of the LA lights and IFLOLS.

Came here looking for answers also. I use a Pimax Crystal and night carrier landings are now very difficult, the meatball is like looking into the sun, it is also very bright during the day, but doable. Not sure what update changed things because I have been flying the Viper lately and have not flow the Hornet for a couple of months.

Still an ongoing issue or has a fix been found?  I can barely make out the ball and the LA/tower is way too bright in VR

Still an issue but you can make the extensive bloom go away by turing the option off in DCS settings, VR tab.

I'm not getting the bloom affect but I haven't been able to pinpoint why. The only thing I can think of is the "darker and less glossy" texture mod I'm using, because the bloom is still there on Forrestal, just not the CVNs for me.

Turning off volumetric lights seems to  help a little.  But it's still a bloom of light

It did help a bit. Many thanks!

I’d also add that the ability to dim the IFLOLS pop up window, and knee board card pop up window for night ops would be useful.

My vote for fixing the lighting and removing overlays. Kneeboard place is on the knee, not overlay screen.

This is really taking a long time to fix. The IFLOS overlay really takes away from immersion in VR.

This is my system in VR and 2D:

People could not see the IFLOS, the brightness was increased and we made some fixes which helped a lot, now you are saying it is to bright, can you see we are just going to be going back and forth between different people with different preferences and different hardware specs. The answer can not be to add sliders to adjust for each issue.

I have asked the team to review the lighting on the carrier for the deck, but at the moment it is lower priority while they work on improving the deck crew.

thank you

This is a legit bug and it's been though several updates now. What is the status? See my post VR vs 2D screenshots taken today.

You're going to have to use the mods to reduce the brightness.  They arent going to come out and say it, but the devs have washed their hands of the carrier. We have what we have.

I personally think that's the healthy way of thinking about the Super carrier and a whole slew of unfulfilled/unfinished content across all of DCS.

Crystal Super User here. Same problem. The IFLOLS is just a big ball of glowing green with no use in VR.

Meta Quest 3 user and the meatball has been unusable since the change until the in-close section of the groove.  Would really love to hear that this is being at least looked into.
