Thanks all - I needed to create exception both for virus buster (Gridinsoft) and Defender - then it was sorted

Posted

I have the same issue. My McAfee is long expired since I never use my PC to browse internet. So I’m guessing I have just windows defender. Can someone tell me how to “add DCS as an exception”? I’m not too good with this stuff

In the most recent patch the F-14 shows up as being disabled as if the license expired, but I've purchesed it and it still shows up in my profile on the ED website.

I attempted to uninstall then reinstall the F-14 module. I get an error message saying that a file can't be moved. (See attached image).

Others on my Discord have reported the same issue.

It's your anti-virus.  There are lots of threads about this issue and how to fix it if you search around even a little bit.

Adding the DCS install folder as an exclusion to windows security worked. I followed this process.

I assume there is some sort of inhouse checks to ensure that no malicious files are included in install files?  Otherwise why are people so quick to turn off their antivirus.  If my anti virus labels something as "severe" and quarantines it, and labels it as a trojan, I'd at least want to look into this file before just ignoring it.

I thought that would do it for me Jake but it didn't, however, thanks for your time and help.

Like the others, after the campaign update I get the same pop-up and I can't fly the bird.

Did a cleanup and a repair then tried the Windows Security as you have laid out, still no joy.

I remembershortly after the F-15E came online, some of us were getting a potential virus alert from Windows security and adding it the exclusion list fixed that issue.

I went as far as turning off the MS virus/security and that didn't fix it.

I reckon I'll watch this thread and wait for a fix.

Do the repair again.

The sequence you described is that you first did the repair and then the AV exclusion. The repair would not have worked as the AV would have just removed the offending files again.

Once you have the AV exclusion, do the repair so that it restores the required files.

Doing it now. I just found the other 4 page thread and read through it.

Update........................

That fixed it. Exclude the DCS folder in Windows Defender and then did a DCS repair.

Thank you

Any reason you didn't read the previous posts? 🤔

They may have started their own thread in some general DCS issues subforum but their post got merged with this one by the moderators. Otoh they could search for other threads a little bit. This also applies to the guys discussing "why" and "it's not safe" for the thousand time in these forums.

Yeah, you're probably right. Reddit is full of it too.

  • I had the same issue. I did a clean reinstall of the game.
  • You have to install this plane seperately. This means you can't do a select all in the 'Available Files'.
  • You have to install all other aircraft first, then this one.

***** NEW ISSUE *****

No ability to fly this plane despite having 'Player' selected for either the F-14A-GR-135 or the F-14B. The plane is treated as 'AI' no matter what.

a reinstall does not fix this issue, as your antivirus is all too happy to delete the suspect file again … you first command your AV to not even look into the dcs folders, and only after that you run a repair to recover the lost file (a reinstall works too, but its a much lengthier process than a repair)

I know, that is what I talked about in my narrative above. It did however let me actually install it. I just can't fly it. It will populate on the map and I can even load the plane up. The game just treats it like an AI asset rather than a module. I a sure HB will have this sorted soon.

  1. Uninstall Norton 360
  2. ReInstalled HB F-14
  3. Problem still persists

So, I don't know what it is now. Like I said I am sure HB is aware of all this by now. Okay brother take care.

  1. Uninstall Norton 360

When you uninstall ANY 3rd party antivirus, Windows will automatically enable its own: ms defender, without even asking.

as expected… what you need to do is manage your AV, adding an exclusion for DCS, to avoid the av deleting files without even asking

this fixes the problem going forward, but it doesnt undo your AV prior actions, so you need to do a dcs repair to recover any lost file.

If you're having this problem with Windows Defender, here's a solution:

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5924-add-remove-microsoft-defender-antivirus-exclusions-windows-10-a.html

I excluded the entire ED folder and it corrected the situation. You might have to reinstall the module if WD quarantined the dll in question.
No, perform a repair. Don't uninstall and reinstall.

You'd complain more if you'd get a virus because they didn't enable it by default. 🤪

Guess why they do that? Because most people are stupid, click the red button and open unsolicited emails. 😊

Dear all,

Well,
Since last time I get the message: dlc f-14 not authorized during the startup of the game

I can't play this module anymore.

Anyone has an idea?
