It seems that the new map update was forgotten, when will it be ready?

Oh, I thought I wasn't seeing the new airfields because my update didn't download correctly. Well, lets hope next patch does not take much more than two weeks

Orbx have stated that their planned introduction of the new airfields didn't make it into the update.  It happens.

Instead new airfields, i preffer more quality on textures, mesh.

And no more extra GB...

It's mostly 2D flat desert, rock and sand. Not exactly wowwww IMO

It's all personal opinion, really. I bought Iraq on a whim, expecting exactly what you described. I was actually really surprised by the diversity and beauty of the region, though. Some of areas are genuinely stunning and really I'm looking forward to the expansion of that map. I'm less sold on Afghanistan, though.

Iraq is already at 111GB (v 154GB for Kola) but a lot less 'done' i.e. there is basically half of the map with no buildings on it yet. So i'd be surprised if it doesn't end up about the same footprint in time.

I'm sure the footprints will increase for all of them over time. My problem now is I have 3 largely undone maps (Kola, Afghanistan and Iraq), and no space left for yet another largely undone map (Germany)  A typical first world problem, but still. It will be a long time before Germany gets purchased and installed.

I don't know if it's just me, but I really don't care all that much for graphics details. They all look perfectly fine by me. What I care more about is the maps being populated by airfields. I would rather the devs used their time making those maps functional first, and then gradually increase graphics detail and other make up. Playability over looks should be a priority IMO.

If Evenes airbase is on your Kola, then you have the newest version of the map.

There are now quite a lot of air bases. They are mostly adding infrastructure around these places. Which means that between these strategically important places there still isn't that many towns and villages. 

Some ports are added though.

The second biggest city on the map Tromsø is still missing. But given it's quite large and have some unique architecture. It's probably a bit of work to get done.
