Btw. I'm curious about the price. Is there any news? In this case, there is no pre-order. So there is no -30% discount perhaps. I don't know if F4U is supposed to be released as EA or not (EA usually guarantees a -20% discount). Sometimes there is something like "Launch discount" in a very short time. So maybe that will be an incentive? Last option, no EA, full price.

You don't read with understanding, or maybe you don't know what F4U is and what this thread is mainly about? Kola came out over a year ago, everyone or most have it. Even logically, if you write about something in terms of "pre-order" - it means one thing, it has not been released into the world yet.

Great to see the Kola map out of EA after only a year. Really going against the trend there.

It's the same people that added nukes to the MiG21, lets just hope the Bat bomb get actually graphical effects.

Afaik ED has generally restricted any nukes in DCS. But we are in need of MOP bunker busters now 😉

30 years ago we could get all the planes, all the battles, all the ships, maps, great realism, ubeatable immersion in one package - on a few floppies... Now we are happy if we get one plane with not much else after years of waiting...

30 years ago the software wasn't as complex. and 3-D simulation was at an infant stage. Heck the one guy who was able to make a 3-D model and import it to work in a gaming software should be awarded a artistic award!

 

AI written for me, 

Back in the early '90s, the ability to create a 3D model and actually get it working in a game engine was incredibly complex and required a mix of artistry, technical prowess, and sheer ingenuity. Tools were primitive by today’s standards. No Blender. No Unity or Unreal with drag-and-drop workflows. Often it was:

  • Modeling in basic software like 3D Studio DOS or early Light Wave.

  • Manually tweaking vertices and normals. (*Geometric Normals)

  • Exporting in custom or obscure formats.

  • Writing code to get the model into the engine.

  • Hoping it didn’t crash everything.

And yet some of the earliest pioneers managed to create groundbreaking work—look at Doom (1993), which wasn’t even fully 3D but used clever tricks to simulate it, or Quake (1996), which was true real-time 3D.

People like John Carmack and the early modding communities were effectively software artists and engineers rolled into one. They laid the foundation for what we now take for granted with photorealistic 3D games and simulations.

I feel like a bit of a cheesebag, but I can buy it on Steam and try it out for two-hours and return it if I don't like it. I usually don't do that intentionally as a "free trial", but I might this time. I've returned four or five modules I've bought over the years, but then rebought all but one. 

 

I find with the WWII planes it's more hit and miss with first impressions than with the jets and choppers.

Don't beat yourself on that one. It means your values over the digital product lies deeper within hours spent rather than the initial novelty. 🙂

I can't think of any module I've purchased that I have a slight remorse over. The Mirage 2000C perhaps was the only one on its early years as it was rough, nowadays after the massive updates, it is right along the rest of my beloved jets. (current dispute subject excluded). The Mustang is the only WWII bird I own so far, perhaps that's a factor.
