Rudel_chw Posted June 30 Posted June 30 Am I the only one that feels irritated by the DCS splash screen? On the above pic the App with the focus is actually Steam, yet the splash screen covers part of it and there is no way to move it to background ... I don't really care that the DCS startup is so long (almost 3 minutes on my PC to reach the DCS main menu), but not leting one work on other apps in the meantime is really annoying Wish it didn't interfere with whatever other app one is using at the time. 2 For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB
scommander2 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 (edited) I guess the logo is used the Window Dialog with the focus to block the focus on other windows. I am used to leave my PC alone while launching DCS.... Good catch!! Tiramisu Posted Sunday at 10:00 PM Posted Sunday at 10:00 PM I feel the same. Does anyone know how to disable or at least shrink it down? Btw. I needed to post something to get rid of my triple six post count.
Beirut Posted Monday at 08:54 PM Posted Monday at 08:54 PM I just figured it was the price of success. As in getting the game to turn on. 2 Some of the planes, but all of the maps!

Tiramisu Posted Tuesday at 09:19 AM Posted Tuesday at 09:19 AM Nope. Alt Tab, Win D, Win Tab, Win arrows do not work. The splash screen is extremely resistant.
Beirut Posted Tuesday at 10:09 AM Posted Tuesday at 10:09 AM 45 minutes ago, Tiramisu said: The splash screen is extremely resistant. Indeed it is. And ED has the source code, so even if the third-party developer of the splash screen stops supporting it, ED can still update it and it will continue to work. (Okay, that was almost funny.) Some of the planes, but all of the maps!
Hiob Posted Tuesday at 10:16 AM Posted Tuesday at 10:16 AM To be fair (not meant as defence), DCS isn't the only offender in this regard. By far not. It's a widespread bad habit of applications. I wonder if there is a technical reasoning behind it (accelerating the process by inhibiting all other I/O processes?). Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted Tuesday at 10:47 AM Posted Tuesday at 10:47 AM Funny thing is, DCS's behaviour is the opposite on my PC: the splashscreen is always in the background, even if the DCS process/window is focussed. But in Rudel's case, I would be annoyed too. I just wonder why the behaviour is different on my PC compared to what others described here... Hiob Posted Tuesday at 11:21 AM Posted Tuesday at 11:21 AM eehhh....isn't the splash screen supposed to disappear once the main loading screen appears. I don't recall it staying longer than a couple seconds.... 30 maybe...., no? I deactivated the loader though, maybe that's the difference..... 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
TheFreshPrince Posted Tuesday at 07:01 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:01 PM When I click "show desktop" in the lower right corner, this screen disappears to the background. Maybe they fixed it or it's some kind of settings issue 1
Czar Posted Wednesday at 04:33 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:33 PM Hmmm Something strange there. On my end, the splash screen went behind this very browser window without me knowing it to start the counter to test. So it is not that resistant here. On the second test, against the desktop with a bunch of stuff open from other sims and with Foobar2000 open (music player), the splash screen only took 18 seconds then it went straight into DCS menu without hassle. Something might of have changed since OP post but @Tiramisu, see if making an exception of DCS root folder and the one in 'saved games' on your AV mitigates the issue. Also make sure your GPU control panel have the shader cache at default. From other test I did, shader cache to OFF more than quintuples DCS loading times. I doubt my rig is better than yours, so something else going on. 64GB Ram, i5 12600k, windows 11, HAGS and game mode ON.
