LimePartician Posted August 1 Posted August 1 (edited) Can we get some legitimate and unbiased video reviews before the pre-order ends? I kind of want to know if I would be wasting 56$ on a gamble. Edited August 1 by LimePartician 2
SteelPig Posted August 1 Posted August 1 I don't think so. You are fre to "risk" it and get a discount for, or you wait and pay the full price. You can't eat the cookie twice. 2

Someone Posted August 1 Posted August 1 I wouldn't say there's much of a gamble involved here. Although as the person who wrote most of the code, I am slightly biased. 12

I kind of want to know if I would be wasting 56$ on a gamble. First of all this is a pre-order. No one has access to the product until it is released. The pre-order comes with a substantial 30%, so if you want to buy and get the best deal before early access starts now would be the best option. If you want to wait for other videos no problem, but the discount amount will change. thank you 3 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? MiG21bisFishbedL Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Try the C-130 mod. If you like the concept, then the full module should be fine. Or, wait and see. Pay full price for the assurance of a decent experience. 1 Reformers hate him! Dragon1-1 Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Mind you, even after the preorder ends, the module will likely be heavily WIP. In EA phase, the big question is not whether there are problems (there will be), but how quickly and how well will they be addressed. With this being ASC's first module, all we can do is take a gamble. Plus, of course, you need to ask yourself whether you have any use for a C-130 in your hangar. Fortunately, at least for me the dilemma is simple: I'm between jobs and can't afford it right now, anyway. I'll probably be back in a few years when that 30% discount comes back, and maybe grab a campaign or two that should be out by that point. Assuming I can get a job by then in this damn economy... 4 1
Charrua Posted August 1 Posted August 1 You have a good point in the question. Look what happened with Razban. I have all the modules, and I don't know if I'll be able to use them in the future. Money wasted. -A-10C Warthog -UH-1H Huey -P-51D Mustang -Combined Arms -Black Shark 2-Mi-8MTV2-Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3-F-86F Sabre-MiG-15bis-Spitfire LF Mk. Ignition Posted August 1 Posted August 1 To be fair this is a new 3rd party developer AND a new type module for DCS, paying so blindly is somewhat strange. And in the description of the aircraft doesn't explain the cargo mechanics and if the cargo mechanics are fixed after a year of introduction of the CH-47. Plus for all other major games with pre order you have a glimpse of gameplay during the pre order phase. 2

Re the glimpse of gameplay - the dev mentioned above that there will be video's incoming, so you'll get the same with this it would seem. As for the preorder being strange - I don't think so. The pre-order is a choice. The dev maybe could have chosen not to do it (I don't know the contract obligations with ED) - and not given an option and just had it available to buy at release. Well - we still have that option now to us anyway - we just have the additional choice of whether we want to buy it early for an additional discount. Personally - I'm not a huge person of pre-purchasing myself - but I'll never knock someone for making it a choice that I can ignore so it gives options for others who have a different mindset or priorities to me. You're not even a flight slimmer until you "gamble" $400 on a ffb joystick base that only has two youtube reviews. Either take the 30% off now or wait two years (maybe more) to see the same price during a sale. Edited August 3 by trev5150 2

I did know that. I also know that most reviews are on the extreme sides of the opinion spectrum from love to hate, and we'll be lucky to find one that's by an actual C-130J pilot. So far no one has identified themselves on this forum as far as I know. On Day 1 hopefully we get a Casmo, Lex Talionis, Mooch, C.W. LeMoine or 47Driver level bubba to show up and give us the straight dope on the Herc FM, systems review in early access, and so on. Everyone else is a YouTube Twitch streamer looking for clicks so they can get a Virpil sponsorship as far as I'm concerned. Still, once the module drops, you're paying full price and the time until it goes on sale or a free fly weekend is long into the foggy distance. My point above is that in the flight sim world, I don't think it pays to be a cheapskate unless you have infinite patience. This is just not a penny pinching pastime. You gotta take the L on the Hawk to support the dev or the developer dies. I'm Team Support ED and Team Support 3rd Party Developers Who Read and Honor the Contract They Signed and Not Try To Shake Down the Lead Developer/Publisher In Public Only To Go Down In Flames. I'm not team wait-and-see. The flight sim industry depends on the Greater Fool, and not just one or two of us. It takes all of us.

Is this being released as EA, or full release? I thought the pricing on EA is discounted? (Not pre release price but still closer to it than full price?) Have you heard any different, because you’re scenario seems to expect it not to go to EA price but full price immediately on release? Historically, pre-release have been 30%, and EA 20% discounted. Seems to me that’s fair. An extra ~ $6usd savings for those who know they want it regardless and buy, and ~ $6 extra for those who wait until after release but still buy EA. $6 difference for insurance/security for those who want public reviews doesn’t seem unreasonable to me, ( or $6 savings for those who show support by pre-ordering seems pretty reasonable). Personally, I’ve never understood preorder on a digital product that doesn’t have limited stock, and would prefer to pay $6 for the insurance, but I also don’t think it’s not unreasonable for those who invest and commit early to get that extra bit of a savings. I’ll always advocate for choice. I think the way it’s been released couldn’t be better… unless there’s something you know that I don’t, such as this being released with no EA? If so, please let me know. Edited 7 hours ago by Dangerzone 1
Bedouin Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago You could also, since you seem to be very affraid of loosing your money, just wait a few years and then Trial it its 55$ and helps support a really interesting new developer to DCS - and either go for the Pre-Order or wait for the Early Access discount instead if you are too worried... Only fair that there are a diffential discount depending on the time of purchase, and since Ralfidude already is flying the beast, i am guessing there will be other videos and content shown.

I won't mind paying full price to guarantee that. Do you want to gamble $56 or spend the $80 on something you confidently know you'll enjoy. Edited 2 hours ago by MiG21bisFishbedL Reformers hate him!
