Welcome to Corsair School, a full training course designed to get you mission-ready in the F4U-1D Corsair.

Corsair School is a full training campaign for the DCS F4U-1D Corsair, set in the WWII Pacific theater. Across 20 missions, you'll progress from cold starts and takeoffs to advanced gunnery, bombing, carrier ops, and division leadership. Learn to fly and fight using historically grounded procedures adapted for DCS—covering rockets, dive and level bombing, navigation, and dogfighting. Master formation tactics, wingman commands, and carrier qualification aboard USS Intrepid. By the end, you won’t just fly the Corsair—you’ll fly it like a fleet pilot.

Training syllabus:

  1. Cold Start
  2. Taxi, take off, landing
  3. Short field operations
  4. Radios
  5. Carrier landing
  6. Navigation
  7. Formation flying
  8. YE-ZB (Hayrake) navigation*
  9. Carrier qualification
  10. Air to ground gunnery
  11. Rockets
  12. Dive bombing
  13. Low level bombing
  14. Tiny Tim
  15. Bat bomb
  16. Aerial gunnery
  17. Dogfight
  18. Section leader
  19. Exam 1 (2nd section lead in a division)
  20. Final exam (division leader)*

*) the sectors of the YE-ZB navigation will change in an upcoming Corsair update. I have everything prepared for the campaign, so please subscribe to be notified about any updates.

Key features:

  • Based on real operating manual
  • Around 400 voice overs
  • Custom lua scripts
  • Custom kneeboards
  • PDF manual

Requires WW2 assets pack. (Once the PTO assets pack is out, the campaign will be adapted accordingly)

Yes, this training campaign is brilliant. Well done Don. I have just passed the carrier landing mission. The voice-overs are clear and concise, and I love the humour in the briefs.
Good stuff,

Cheers!

Thanks so much! I am glad you like it 🙂
I will adapt this for the Hellcat later, then hopefully with a real human voice. If I can find someone who volunteers to read hundreds of texts 🙈

Couldn't resist and I gave the 1st mission a try, but for some reason I get stuck on this step:

May I suggest, that since this is a Training Campaign, have all missions start with a base score of 50? ... this way you won't fail the Campaign for small issues like this?

Cheers, and thanks again for sharing this Campaign 🙏

While you can certainly place the folder within /Saved Games/ as suggested on the Campaign Manual, I opted to place it within the DCS program folder, like this:

U3ibeY9.jpg

As the Corsair does not yet have a built-in campaign, I had to manually create the "Campaigns" folder and place the "Corsair School" folder there. Note that the name of the Campaign's Folder is not critical, so I renamed it to credit its author.

If you ever do a DCS Full repair, this folder I placed within DCS will be deleted ... so, make sure to have a backup copy somewhere else, or employ a Mod Manager.

Cheers!

Although not recommended by integrity check, but that's what I normally do with all campaigns which are build for a certain aircraft; to put them in their associated Campaigns folder. I prefer the associated campaigns to show up with the selcted aircraft in the campaigns folder.

Hi Eduardo,

The base score of 50 is a good idea, this is my mistake. I set the skip score to 10, which is achieved by simply starting a mission. I thought that was enough (campaign newbie here).

About your "problem", your brakes are set? You use buttons for the mixture, I was using an axis. I will check the values tomorrow morning. But during testing, this problem was usually caused by the brakes not being set.

Cheers and thanks for the kind words

Carsten

Yes, correct, I use keybinds for the mixture, which give me just 3 positions for the mixture lever.

Nope, IC does not care about files that are not in the core. Only adultered files.

Well, sort of. I always generate a new directory for a new campaign to store all campaign files in that new directory. However when DCS files are regenerated DCS tends to store all campaign files in the same main campaign directory for that aircraft. As a result DCS detects and displays these campaigns twice and a manual campaign directory cleanup is required. I tried to use a mod manager for this which didn't work. Not a big issue but manual cleanup is required.

Finally I could watch it on a bigger screen. Your starter switch cover is closed, ghus the starter switch won't work, if you use a keybind for it.

Before the texts that are visible in the video, this one should have appeared:

"Open the cover of the starter switch [124] and press the starter switch until the engine runs smoothly. [123]" (Numbers are for me internally)

Your engine however is not running. Throttle might need to be a bit more open, hard to say from the far.

On also keep the user campaigns I download in seperate folders. They are never touch by DCS unless I perform a repair. So that's strange. Anyway, I also keep them in a mod manager to have full control.

Thanks, I will retry it tonight and let you knew how it went ... on the original video I missed the message that I had to start the engine already, I tought that I was still on the preparatory phase. I do use a keybind for the starter, which also opens the cover first, taking advantage of my HOTAS which allows me to bind a sequence of actions to a button, like this:

BTN H3U /I
               /O /P /H Starter_cover_open Starter
                  /R Starter_cover_close

which means: Hat3, Up button, alternate action none (/I), main action: On Press do: Starter_Cover_Open, followed by the Starter (which is held until button release). On Release do: Starter_Cover_Close

Me too, for example for the Viggen I have:

I had to number the campaigns, to have the 3 built-in ones show up first, and the remaining User Campaigns are on cronological order.

Another example, the Mi-24P:

the Phantom:

The Hornet:

the MB-339:

well, you get the idea 🙂

On DCS, Campaigns are files of type .cmp not .exe.

Campaigns function within the DCS environment, so you need to run DCS first, and then load the Campaign there. If you place the Campaign files on the location suggested by its documentation, then on DCS you find the Campaign under its "Campaign" menu Item, and then select "My Campaigns"
