Canada_Moose Posted August 22 Posted August 22 What are current owners feeling about this map now after the recent update? Doesn't seem to have been much discussion around it over the last little while. How does it perform relative to say Syria? 1
EricJ Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I haven't played Syria in years, so I don't know how it goes. Overall I'm getting good framerates to there's nothing to complain about. I mean there's been some glitches on the terrain itself, but somebody else has seen to that. So right now I like it still. H60MTI Posted August 23 Posted August 23 The map itself is fine. I have some personal opinions about the map, I'd like to see the map modeled around the 2011-2014 time frame but that's just because I was there during that time so that's I remember Afghanistan. All in all, though, ED did a decent job with it. 1 Former SSG US Army UH-60A/L/M Crewchief "2 To Fly!"
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted August 23 Posted August 23 I haven't had a lot of time for DCS lately, but the short test I did yesterday was pretty positive: far fewer frame spikes compared to what I remember, and far fewer ugly transitions between 2 very different types of terrain texture. 1 1 Spoiler Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 96GB G.Skill Ripjaws M5 Neo DDR5-6000 | Asus ProArt RTX 4080 Super | ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E GAMING | Samsung 990Pro 2TB + 990Pro 4TB NMVe | VR: Varjo Aero VPC MT-50CM2 grip on VPForce Rhino with Z-curve extension | VPC CM3 throttle | VPC CP2 + 3 | FSSB R3L | VPC Rotor TCS Plus base with SharKa-50 grip | Everything mounted on Monstertech MFC-1 | VPC R1-Falcon pedals with damper | Pro Flight Trainer Puma OpenXR | PD 1.0 | 100% render resolution | DCS graphics settings Win11 Pro 24H2 - VBS/HAGS/Game Mode ON

All in all, though, ED did a decent job with it. I was there in 2011-2014 as well (Jalalabad and Mazar Sharif), and it looks decent for that time. Honestly only really looked at Jalalabad and Bagram, but they are pretty close to what I remember. Jalalabad is fairly accurate, but the FARP placement and setup is kind off off. On the upside they modeled the controlled detonation pit near the end of the runway where an EOD guy decided to try to kill me one day as I was flying over top. 1
H60MTI Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Sounds about right! My favorite was always the God voice going, "Controlled det. 5 mins" Then 6 secs later, big boom. Salerno was bad for that and someone's watch was always off too apparently AW139, were you aircrew brother? Former SSG US Army UH-60A/L/M Crewchief "2 To Fly!"
