Looking for a CPU Better Than the 9950X3D

Running a 9950X3D with a 5090, and the CPU is maxed out at 100%. I also have several screens connected.
Is there a better CPU on the market?
Would switching to a server type CPU help?

when you say it's maxed out ... at 100% what exactly do you mean ... a single core might be maxed out, but you wont be using all the cores at 100% that's just not the way DCS works on something like 9950X3d but functionally no there is not a better CPU on the market... but several things come to mind... 

 

1) are you sure that DCS is actually using the correct CCD, the 9950x3d has two CCD's only one of which has the improved ram cache 

2) are you overclocked, what's your cooling solution/temp

3) have you disabled core parking 

4) have you submitted your dcs.log to the bot on ED's Discord channel, it normally is quite good at diagnosing problems

that's very strange... for a number of reasons, the 9950x3d  has 16 cores you only have 8 turned on , and you don't have hyperthreading enabled so there should be another 16 virtual cores ... i'm not sure why you have two GPU's either ... and additionally whats your cpu usage when DCS  is not running ? because that is really really odd... you say you are not OC'd but you are running at 5.39 which feels like you have set a PBO ... honestly i'm not even sure where to start

1)The 9950X is a dual-CCD (Core Complex Die) processor, meaning it has two separate dies, each with its own set of cores.

CCD 0 is the "preferred" die for high-frequency performance, boasting a higher Fmax of 5.75 GHz compared to CCD 1's 5.45 GHz.

How to Assign Cores

Use Task Manager:

Open Task Manager and go to the "Details" tab. 

Right-click on the process you want to optimize and select "Set affinity". 

In the dialog box, you can manually select which cores the process will use. To prioritize CCD 0, you would select the first 8 cores. 

As speed of heat noticed, somehow you are missing half your cores. Disabled in bios? If not, update your bios.

3)To adjust CPU core parking, you can use third-party utilities like ParkControl by Bitsum or Quick CPU by Coderbag. 

 

Also, run Process Lasso to optimize your cpu in real time

You’re only using a quarter of your CPU. And why on Earth would you use 2 graphics cards, and dissimilar ones at that?

For DCS that is no longer needed, and may in fact reduce performance if you set it up wrong.

For reference, I run my 9950x3d on an air cooler with no problems

x3D Turbo mode disables the non-x3D CCD and SMT too I think, so Windows sees fewer cores

What I find interesting is that you have 2 GPUs and both are being utilized. Unless you know why that's happening, I suspect you might have a malware mining on your PC

Also if you don't have VSync enabled, or have the FPS limiter at the default 180, then 100% CPU usage is expected given you have a 5090
