Good they buy them and are determined to finally upgrade their air fleet.

It would be nice to meet them with new missiles cos if Su-35 will still use R-27ER than these new it won't be really big threat ;]

I think ED should help them out with you know what.... hint hint wink wink

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Agreed! I could just see someone from ED and MAKS handing out a business card:

"We could make a LOVELY simulation of your shiny new Su-35s over there! And it could even run on a regular desktop computer! Pilots could practice without an expensive dedicated simulator! Just some desktops and a LAN! What a BARGAIN!"

Unfortunately, I doubt they'd ever give the ok for the "home version".

Anyone want to take a stab at the paint schemes on them when they're in service? Do you think the Russians will abandoned camouflage for the more practical "Air Superiority Grey"? I've never understood the purpose of the blue camo, other than looking totally friggin cool, that is. ;) Does it REALLY make it harder to see in the sky?

I say art deco.

I guess it masks the plane a bit on a perfect blue sky, but on other days it stands out on gray background, saying "ok, I'm here. go home now or die" :)

I liked the "go home or die" part

The Su-35 will be able to use R-77 missile. I don't know if R-77 was updated any in the last two decades.

As mentioned in some other threads there are claims that Russia is developing several new generation missiles intended for PAK-FA and most likely for other fighters Su-35/34/30, mig-35 too, as RVV-AE hasn`t been mass produced and the use of older missiles by these fighters will not be appropriate. At the moment the amount of the mentioned aircraft in service is not big so the need for larger amounts of advanced AA missile will probably arise after 2012, when more planes will be delivered and entering service. IMHO at this time the new missiles can be expected to be ready for production. Meanwhile the possibility of use of upgraded versions of the existing RVV-AE or other missiles, in case of necessity shouldn`t be completely excluded.

Wasnt expecting this purchasse to happen any time soon but even this is a low number of planes procured.

Yes it is. But it`s a step forward. And we can hope for increased production of PAK-FA in the next decade

Numbers should decrease when talking modern fighters, I mean, during the WWII you had to have 1000+ planes to do a job that a half a dozen Raptors can do these days, I said numbers but not price in total. So having a ~100 of modern Sukhoi figher/bombers in your fleet can compensate entire Su-17/MiG-21/MiG-23 fleet VVS and PVO had in early '80s.

How come the pro-Raptor guys don't see it this way? No sarcasm intended. I agree, to a point.

Take a look at the Sales brochure for Su-35. Specifically the armament page, page 14. They are showing a long range AA missile, but, they don't say what kind of missile that is.

From what I know, the only Russia's long range AA missile is R-33. Does anybody have any idea what kind of long range AA missile is planned for Su-35?

Here's the sales brochure:

I thought that with the introduction of TVC and a light nose section would remove the need of the canards and give better RCS?

NVM, saw it was the BM/S

It could just be a sales thing ('projected missile'), or it could be the missile they're working on to replace the 77; that won't be for a while though.

EDIT: Just looked at it. They're probably still hyping the KS-172 from the looks of it. Don't believe it until you see it, Hajduk :P

Maybe DCS:Su-35 is needed for the RAF for simulation training? :)
I second that opinion!
