tone12 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 hi, finally dived in and bought black shark. its been a while since i played a helo sim and this sim looks like a beast to learn. my 1st thought was how do i see what all the many keys are in game? :helpsmilie: the game didnt come with a key chart!
EtherealN Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 The game didn't come with a keychart because... well... there's about 500 key combos. Basically, if you go into the options screen you can find various selections in a roll-down menu for types of actions, and set keys there. Also note that there are two separate categories there - "Real" and "Game". The former is for full realism, and the latter is for the "arcade" mode. These can be set independently. If there's something specific you want to set, you can name it and I'll see if I can find it. Also, the tutorial videos will go through various actions and tell you the default keys for that action. If you intend to play in Real mode, don't fret for a keymap. At that level it is really complex and you need to focus on one thing at a time and learn the commands for that (and set those you want to whatever joystick keys you prefer). Do NOT expect to have a map and just check things midflight, because in real mode this is extremely real and close to the level where the real pilots would have a long training period before they get to do it in the real bird. (Real Ka-50 pilots do use this simulator.) Instead, take things one small bit at a time and repeat until satisfied that you know it by heart, then choose another system. My recommendations would be to first start with automatic startup, and then learn to fly and master the trimming. Forget navigation, weapons, radio, datalink etctera. Once this is achieved, study the start-up procedure. (Learning to fly is more fun, otherwise this one would be first.) You can also try doing errors on purpose and see if you can find out what happens when you do that. After this, learn the PVI-800 navigation system. (Not the screen thingie, that's the ABRIS.) Once you can navigate with that, go on. After this, learn how to navigate with the ABRIS, and study it's different modes. After this, learn to use the Skhval. Then how to employ weapons with the Skhval. After this, learn how countermeasures work. Then go through the datalink and radio ID. Also, do not be afraid to pop up on online servers if you have issues. Most people on the servers are very friendly and will help out a "newbie" that needs help. In my experience the Midget Tossers server and the 159th server (when the latter gets back online) are extra friendly, but be warned that the former has an extremely difficult mission - though the people there are usually very helpful. Hope to see you online, and if you have further questions please do not hesitate to ask. Old proverb: it is better to ask and appear stupid than to stay silent and be stupid. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
104th_Crunch Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Look in the 'Doc' folder under your Black Shark folder for PDFs of the manual and a key list.
Waldo_II Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 About 90% of the key combinations do nothing more than push a button inside the cockpit. There are, however, a limited few on the cyclic and collective, along with stuff like closing the cockpit door, changing camera angles, etc. that require more than just the mouse. After playing for a while, taking baby steps into each system, you get a sense of what everything does and where something should be (A newbie wouldn't know where the intercom switch would be, but an experienced player would know that it should be on the right wall panel next to datalink power switches, radio switches, etc) For a full list of default keys, click here for an online guide (html)
joey45 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 it would help if you have a HOTAS and some form of head tracking software. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. TheMoose Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 The problem is to find a key that is NOT assign to be able to use for resetting your trackIr :D And Welcome Tone12 to this awesome community. I'm still a noob myself, very deep learning curve, but that's where the fun is ;) Antec 900 gaming tower, PSU: Corsair 750W, Q6600, Asus P5K, 8Gig Mushkin, Nvidia eVGA 280 GTX Superclocked 1G DDR3, SSDNOW200 Kingston Drive, TrackIr 3000+Vector, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, Saitek rudder pedals pro, Sharp 42" inch LCD Aquo. Snacko Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 (edited) A buddy of mine uses the Caps Lock key for TrackIR center and I started using it too. It works great. Just don't trap it of you can't use it for typing... PS: I would suggest joining a squad. There are many people who like to train noobs. That's how I learned... Here's where I joined. 104th_Crunch Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Moose, leave a button on your HOTAS as a normal directx joystick button, then assign that as reset in your TrackIR.
TheMoose Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I use scroll lock. Nate Ah thanks, yep that one seems to be empty. That did the trick :D Antec 900 gaming tower, PSU: Corsair 750W, Q6600, Asus P5K, 8Gig Mushkin, Nvidia eVGA 280 GTX Superclocked 1G DDR3, SSDNOW200 Kingston Drive, TrackIr 3000+Vector, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick, Saitek rudder pedals pro, Sharp 42" inch LCD Aquo. TheMoose Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Moose, leave a button on your HOTAS as a normal directx joystick button, then assign that as reset in your TrackIR. HOTAS, I'm still using a sidewinder precision. I seemed not able to get rid of it even If I have X45(in the box still). Not enough buttons on that MS stick:blush: But I luv the grip ;) of my sidewinder... Rhino4 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Or reassign one of the view keys that you never use. I use F12. If you click the cockpit a lot instead of using the keyboard, then just pick a switch that you never use the keyboard for and delete the key assignment in the game. Then use that button for trackir.

Decerto Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I'm still getting into it and can barely fly a nav route and deploy weapons. Just take your time and learn what you need to know step by step. Take-off, flying around, how to target and shoot and navigation. I'm fairly competent in the LOMAC Su-25T so I naivlely thought this couldn't be harder, but it is:) A good HOTAS setup works wonders and I've asked santa for a x-52 setup with pedals for xmas to replace my horrid Logitech 3d pro which was good for Falcon4 but can't handle the nuances of this complex flight model.
