Nealius Posted September 23 Posted September 23 (edited) With cockpit and game localization set to English the AWACS/GCI is still in Russian. With eyes on sensors, bandits, wingmen, or near rocks as you're ingressing/egressing at low altitude, having to take your eyes off more important things to read subtitles in the corner of the screen is a situational awareness nightmare; potentially a death sentence causing CFIT during low altitude flying. The AWACS/GCI voice needs to be in English and/or match the game's localization settings. Edited September 23 by Nealius 2
Revientor Posted Friday at 06:48 PM Posted Friday at 06:48 PM (edited) the awacs talk to you in english when you are in a blue team, if you are in red team, awacs speaks russian Edited Friday at 06:49 PM by Revientor 1
Nealius Posted Saturday at 02:28 AM Author Posted Saturday at 02:28 AM (edited) And? It should be in English regardless of coalition when game localization is set to English. Edited Saturday at 02:29 AM by Nealius 1
Kang Posted Saturday at 10:37 AM Posted Saturday at 10:37 AM Perhaps when that rework that has been hinted at several times over the years happens. As for right now I figure it doesn't make a huge difference which language they use to tell me completely irrelevant stuff to ignore. Before somebody feels the need to ask, here my usual experience with the DCS AWACS in a busy mission: AWACS: «Pop-up group of two, 90 miles, 330.» AWACS: «Pop-up group, 150 miles, 025, hot.» AWACS: «Bogey four ship, somewhere over Western Australia, flanking.» AWACS: «Pop-up group, 75 miles, 347, cold.» AWACS: «MERGED!» Yea, thanks a lot... 3

I had that in my MiG-29 yesterday: I kept asking 100 (the A-50) for bogey dope, and they insisted the closest bandit is the one I locked up, off my nose at 25km. The next thing I see is flames and me tumbling out of control as I hear a voice say: "717, MERGED". Well, that was helpful... 1 Spoiler Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 96GB G.Skill Ripjaws M5 Neo DDR5-6000 | Asus ProArt RTX 4080 Super | ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E GAMING | Samsung 990Pro 2TB + 990Pro 4TB NMVe | VR: Varjo Aero VPC MT-50CM2 grip on VPForce Rhino with Z-curve extension | VPC CM3 throttle | VPC CP2 + 3 | FSSB R3L | VPC Rotor TCS Plus base with SharKa-50 grip | Everything mounted on Monstertech MFC-1 | VPC R1-Falcon pedals with damper | Pro Flight Trainer Puma OpenXR | PD 1.0 | 100% render resolution | DCS graphics settings Win11 Pro 24H2 - VBS/HAGS/Game Mode ON
draconus Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago AWACS fortunately are not omniscient. They also have radar range, RCS, terrain masking and notch limits, banked high wing blocking the picture in its direction, etc. so it's totally possible to be ambushed even with AWACS support. Kang Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Oh, I'm perfectly fine with these obvious limitations. What keeps getting me is how they are too busy telling me about something they saw crossing the border into Angola to even let me know they are also seeing that enemy interceptor going straight for me. AI is not exactly DCS' strong suite, and AWACS/GCI has so little sense of priorities that it wants to be in the race for top contender. I rank them about on par with the ATC when it alternates between 'cleared to land' and 'go around' for a minute straight. 2
