Q3ark Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 (edited) Should the gun gas purge door be closed unless the gun is firing? It's open at all times from a cold start, closing and operating normally when the gun is fired for the first time. Edited August 23, 2024 by Q3ark
Alpiinoo Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 (edited) It only opens when the cannon is fired. It closes again when the shot is finished. The situation in DCS is correct. Edited August 23, 2024 by Alpiinoo
ED Team Lord Vader Posted August 23, 2024 ED Team Posted August 23, 2024 Hello @Q3ark I'm sorry but I cannot reproduce what you claim here. Make sure not to be using mods and if you don't, run a quick repair to your DCS World to make sure something else isn't interfering. Esquadra 701 - DCS Portugal - Discord
Q3ark Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 (edited) Hi @Lord Vader I don't run any mods, this install of DCS has never been modded in the past. I did a repair on steam, no change. I've attached two track files, the first one is the cold and dark instant action flight, the second is the ready at the ramp one, both on the Caucases map. In the cold and dark instant action track the gas purge door is open, it will remain open if you take off and fly with it, only closing after you fire the gun, then it will work normally. The second track file is hot start, gas purge door works as it should. I'm using the multi thread version on steam, up to date. Steps to reproduce, 1 Cold start instant action flight or place a cold start jet on the ramp in the mission editor. F16_1.trk F16_2.trk Edited August 23, 2024 by Q3ark typo
Q3ark Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 Steps to reproduce the problem. Do a cold start, before you even turn on the battery go outside the aircraft and see of that door is open. If it is then power up and take off, have a look and see if that door is still open. Then fire the gun, it will now operate as it should. this problem does not present itself if you do a hot start aircraft. 2
ED Team Lord Vader Posted August 26, 2024 ED Team Posted August 26, 2024 I see, @Q3ark, that cold/hot scenario is important to verify. Thanks, reported. 1 Esquadra 701 - DCS Portugal - Discord
Hofftari Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) When cold starting the Viper, there is a hatch that is usually opened when you fire the gun and only when you fire the gun, but this is both open from a cold start (like all the other hatches), but this one will stay opened until you activate Dogfight-mode with master arm on (it doesn't close if master arm is off and you switch to DF-mode or if you switch to DF-mode with master arm while weight-on-wheels). After getting up in the air and doing this procedure of going DF-mode with master arm on, the hatch will behave correctly, but never before that. I have attached a track where I demonstrate this, both on the ground and after takeoff. Tholozor Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago (edited) The F-16 doesn't eject spent casings, it holds them in the magazine as ballast weight. That port is for venting gun exhaust gas. Do you have any mods installed? I can't check the track at work. Hofftari Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) Ah, I wasn't aware of the exact function of that hatch, but in any case, the hatch is still stuck in open position. And I have no mods installed. Edited 20 hours ago by Hofftari Proud member of Master Arms, a Swedish DCS community
Delta134 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago (edited) Good catch. Judging from from F-16 startup videos on YouTube (like this one and this one), the hatch is actually supposed to be open on a cold start. As soon as the engine is spooled up (and presumably the hydraulics come online) the hatch can be seen closing. Right now in DCS, it doesn't. I am also able to repeat to get the hatch to close by selecting the gun (either dogfight mode or A-G gun strafe mode) and having master arm on. Edited 18 hours ago by Delta134
RogueSpecterGaming Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago As a weapons troop who has worked on the F16 and the weapon systems on it to include the gun system which includes the gun gas purge door (name of that door) I can confirm it is incorrect and I have mentioned it years ago. It was fixed a while few years ago but appears to have made it back and not sure why. Once the jet is started the hydraulics kick in and move the control surfaces and close the gun gas purge door. The only time that door is suppose to open is when the gun is actually firing. Not before and not after but DURING the firing of the gun. I hope they fix it soonish.
