Guest ruggbutt Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I had some texture corruption so I uninstalled 1.1 and followed Wags' directions. I reinstalled just fine, but what's up w/this? 3 installs left? Someone needs to explain to me exactly why this situation was misrepresented previously in these forums.

Guest ruggbutt Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I'm not the only one this has happened to, I'm just the guy who hit his print screen button...................
JG27_Arklight Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I'm wondering if by erasing the Eagle Dynamics folder in RegEdit after installing then uninstalling 1.1 if perhaps a key or some other file was in that folder that gauged the amount of installs (which if uninstalled normally and not using RegEdit afterwards would not affect the key/file)? Definately warrants looking into. Guest ruggbutt Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Good point. It's my impression that when we register we connect to lockon.ru. At least that's what my firewall said. If that's the case there shouldn't be a problem as my rig is identical to what it was hardware-wise this morning. I understood that my rig sends a key unique to my hardware, then the registration key is sent back.
destroyex Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 It says activation not installing. And since you get 4 activations then of course you are gonna have 3 left after activating it once. And since you didn't do any major system upgrades you still have 3 activations left. Don't get overreative about it.
Strannik Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Yes, if you can´t read...so of course the voice communication is good solution... Did you read "Rules of Program Installation and Functionality" before you downloaded 1.1? Probably you did´t! Try it now! ========================================================= To protect the link between the "Program" and your computer configuration, StarForce is used for such protection. If up to 40% of the hardware parameters of your computer have changed, you will be required to re-activate your "Program." After your initial activation, you have a total of four re-activations of the "Program." ========================================================= Be more attentive next time! But still good question is what means with ""If up to 40% of the hardware parameters of your computer have changed"" Knowlege is power!!!
JG27_Arklight Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I guess if you have the time and want too, maybe try doing what you did before again and see if the number drops to 2? If the number actually did drop you do have some type of recourse considering what was stated prior to release. As Strannik stated, you should have 4 installs after activation. Since you haven't changed 40% of your hardware, you should still have 4 installs if I am reading it correctly. Guest ruggbutt Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Do you people not know how to read? Nowhere does it say activation not installing. Also, I installed it the first time and it said I had 4 left. I had texture corruption so I reinstalled again. Now it says 3. I did read the EULA Strannik, you seem to not understand what's being said here. Edit: Ark, I have 3 left not 4 like I had during the first install. I think that maybe we were misinformed.
gustav Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 http://forum.lockon.ru/showpost.php?p=53239&postcount=12 Is this mis written then as it says 4 re-activations?
JG27_Arklight Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Edit: Ark, I have 3 left not 4 like I had during the first install. I think that maybe we were misinformed. It would appear that way. Hopefully somebody in the know can chime in here and address this asap. Guest ruggbutt Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Once again. I installed 1.1. I activated SF and I had 4 left. I had some texture corruption so I uninstalled and cleared my registry like Wags said to do. I reinstalled LOMAC, then 1.1. I activated SF. You can clearly see in my screenshot that I now have 3 left. So with that I say: WTF?!!!
DayGlow Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 This is why I never buy on the first day with software. Seems to be a bug within the system as it goes against everything SF and ED has said about the CP scheme. Hopefully it will be sorted out quick. I'm holding off buy FC until at least I'm done this work shift block and have some days off to map X45, set everything up, etc. Hopefully by then this issue will be done. W-Natas Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Hmm i think i wait one or two months before i buy it... SF is to unsecure atm. This message was sponsored by "askingstupidquestions.com" in cooparation with "icantfly.de".
Bigfoot209th Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Ya, I'm still holding out hope that this can be circumvented using the 'manual' activation or some other trick. ...but I ain't gonna go wasting my 4 if that ain't the case...hehe...anyone else wanna do the experimenting? ;-) ------------------ Wingmen should pretty much stick to two radio transmissions, "Two." or "Sir, you're on fire."
aceflier Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Hmm i think i wait one or two months before i buy it... SF is to unsecure atm. Same here. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Tracker Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Apparently the SF Activation Occurs under 2 conditions. 1. Installation of Product 2. 40% Change in hardware The Number of Activations is stored at lockon.ru and linked to your user. Since you completely erased the prior installation, SF had no way to know you didn't put it on a clone hardware box and subsequently docked you another activation point. :P When all else fails, Eject then read the manual. Oh, and a good wingman helps.
DayGlow Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 and that goes against what ED and SF said how the activation works. We were told that we had unlimited installations of the program as long as the hardware doesn't change. aceflier Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Someone explain to me how this is going to stop piracy of lockon 1.1 again? Its going to make it worse! :( Another Issue I see is SLI rigs what happens when you disable SLI or enable SLI is that a hardware change? I've also seen a thread on nvnews that starforce completely borked splinter cell with SLI. Thats why I ask. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kovy Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 isn't it normal ? the first installation count for one and you have 3 more left in case you change your adware so 4 activation. Asus A7N8X-E (nForce2) + Athlon XP3000 + Geforce 4 ti 4200 (64 MB) + drivers 66.93+ 1 GB ram (dual chanel mode) win 2000 sp4 + direct-X 9c
Guest ruggbutt Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Wrong, you need to read my posts again. After the first install I had 4 left. After the second install (exact same hardware) I had 3 left. You get 5 installs.
S77th-GOYA Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I'd be willing to bet that you deleted your activation key, so SF got you a new one. Notice that Wags' installation advice has been editted regarding deletion of the ED reg entry.
Guest ruggbutt Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 That's probably it. Still, this needs to be answered by ED.
coldcrew Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I'm with ruggbutt on this one. We were told that it was 40% of hardware. Is ED saying if we reinstall the operating system that uses up an activation too? T
