sobe Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I do not understand the purpose or use of the trimmer reset button as I thought each time you use the trim button, the trim resets. ????:helpsmilie: Trackir4 using the latest Trackir 5 software, Win10 Pro [Creator Update] updated from Win7Pro Pro 64Bit, Intel® Core™ i5-2500 3.30 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache LGA115 , GigaByte GA-Z68XP-UD4 Intel Z68 Chipset DDR3 16GB Ram, GTX MSI Gaming 1060 [6 GB] Video Card, Main Monitor 1 on left 1920x1080 Touchscreen Monitor 2 on right 1920x1080 .

Kurtz Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 The only time I use "trim reset" is immediatly after landing. On your approach to landing you are most likly trimmed in a way to offset any drift. Once you land this trim position can often drag your helicopter sideways, or you may have too much forward trim overriding any braking input causing an overshoot. Reseting trim on landing neutralizes all these inputs as Shamandgg says. 1
Slayer Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I use it all the time since I don't have a force feedback stick. It is best to use this when you land and rearm-start from scratch as he previous poster suggested. I also use it when the I'm hovering and the auto turn on target quits working and the helicopter just starts to randomly turn of its own accord...reset then quickly trim again and all is good. Boulund Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Why not manually trim to neutral? I really don't see the need for using reset trim. Feuerfalke Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 You shouldn't use reset trim inflight unless you really, really need to (and why would you?). When you reset your trim inflight, it might cause an instant rotor-crash, because of the sudden change of balance and your instinctive reaction to counter that inbalance. 1 Gigabyte GA-Z87-UD3H | i7 4470k @ 4.5 GHz | 16 GB DDR3 @ 2.133 Ghz | GTX 1080 | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | Creative X-Fi Ti | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win10 64 HP | X-Keys Pro 20 & Pro 54 | 2x TM MFD

L4key Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I sometimes use the reset button in flight as I get into a never ending battle where I can't get control properly, wildly overtrimming one way then the other - normally after a hard evasive manouver where I've forgotten to hold the trim down. It's never sheared my rotors (yet!) but you do have to anticipate a wild pitch up normally. After resetting I can get back in stable flight asap. Trim reset is also useful when you don't re-centre and the controls freeze. I do it only very occasionally now but having the trim reset mapped on the joystick next to the trim helps. Great tip btw Kurtz about landing. Never thought of that but it's so obvious now you mention it!
nemises Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I must admit, I use trim reset when I land as a shortcut to trimming properly for the ground... ..but I feel ever so naughty when I do!
GrifterMan Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 diddo here on the trim reset on landing takes care of rolling around. also use it in flight if I accidentally hit the trim at an odd angle. makes it easier to smooth things back out if you dial in a bad setting.

When you reset your trim inflight, it might cause an instant rotor-crash, because of the sudden change of balance and your instinctive reaction to counter that inbalance. As I said sometimes the auto turn on target flakes out and the helicopter just wants to randomly start rotating and wont turn on target... no matter how many times you trim it. Trim reset fixes it for me when this happens. Never had rotors strike once because of it...
