For me discussion stops at this point. I am no fanboy of ArmA II or any other game, as long as it's fun I'm happy. Only thing that made me angry was that most of the press said ArmA II sucks and then most people said the same without even playing it.

Totally AGREE.

So I got OFP for 360, my bootcamped HD on my mac is full (never thought I'd have so many games on here). Plus the 360 has been a glorfied dust collector for the past year or so.(No tracker IR support for OFP is another reason I went 360 version).

ANYWAY! I think it's a great 360 game, the campaign mode so far on hardcore is a lot of fun, still waiting to try it co-op. Online multiplayer to be honest was pretty weak. Conncetion speeds were super slow and I'm on a super fast connection speed...just doesn't feel right.

Mind you I onliy played for a few hours (time split between multiplayer and campaign) so not I don't have a true feeling of it yet.

Definitely a decent game, definiately not great as advertised but it was a very ambitious project (especially for consoles).

Any of you guys play it yet? How does the PC version hold up?

I'm getting the 360 version tomorrow i hope; will be the first 360 game bought in almost a year!

I've been hearing the AI is actually very intelligent when used properly, and staging attacks is a lot of fun....

Cant wait till I'm off work tomorrow!

The 360 guys over at SIMHQ do like it so far...:)

As more reports are coming in and people somewhat cooled down the ranting, the game doesn't seem to be as bad as some people make it. Infact there a lot of people in the meanwhile, who state that it's not as realistic as ArmAII, but taken for itself it's a nice tactical shooter with a different advance.

Some comments are rather funny, though, like some ArmAII fan complaining about the dumb AI in OPF:DR, because they take so long to see or even hit you at 50m, when you are ducked down in the grass, or OFP:OR being a bad game, because you can't save whenever you want on hardcore

Only real problem so far is the lack of online-servers and a dedicated server.

Well I picked it up for 360 after class yesterday; here are my impressions:

Simply put I am having a lot of fun with it. I really debated between getting it on 360 or PC but ultimately went with the 360 for a few reasons. One was that most of my friends don't own a PC so the 360 is the best choice to do CO-OP with them. Two, after reading most of the reviews and previews, the game seemed very geared towards the console.

I am someone who absolutely loved Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis. I can remember playing the Demo for hours upon hours before the full game came out. Ive also played ARMAI and ARMAII and I am a big fan of both of those.

Dragon Rising is its own flavor.... it stands on its own pretty good. You can see remnants of how OpFlash worked or how ARMA works in the game, but I think they took the best elements from those and made a solid game around those elements. Its definitely not as much of a SIM as ARMA is, but its a really fun GAME.

I think thats the part that gets me is that Codemasters traded just a perfect amount of realism for Game.

I havent played online yet, but I am pretty deep into the single player campaign and I am having a blast. One thing you'll notice is how awesome the voicing is. It sounds pretty fluid and not like a Cylon barking out enemy sightings to you. The smoke and artillery effects are pretty cool to. Your AI teammates are very smart. They haven't pissed me off once yet. As I am running from one place to another I keep turning around to check on them(ARMA habit) and always to my surprise they are right where they should be in formation.

Anyways... if you love OpFlash:CC and ARMA, and think you might like something that's toned down a little bit on the realism but a lot more solid with the AI and scripiting, then I say pick it up!

One reviewer (@rockpapershotgun.com) said it feels like a proper successor to Delta Force 2. That would be awesome in my book but can you confirm it?

In a way it reminds me of the Novalogic games.... ya.

Thanks for answering. The earlier ones I hope because everything they released after DF3 (Land Warrior) or Joint Operations was garbage, IMO.

Crazy we should coordinate some online co-op when you get it!

Sure, what time zone you in?

@ Stickers: Great review, just want I wanted to hear. There was a lot of bashing on the official forums at first...but it seems to be calming down now.

I think the majority of people bi*ching after the first few hours of release are going to complain no matter what shape the game is in.

Yeah, it does actually have a Delta Force-feel to it.

I am one of the few who love simulators, but cant stand the original Operation Flashpoint or the ArmA series. My first impressions of Dragon Rising on the other hand are quite good, its actually fun to play, it looks good and it runs great. Looking forward to explore more of Skira island.

I'm on eastern standard time (Toronto) but I don't get much time to play video games except weekend nights...nice and late ;). So I do take advantage :)

You're on the west coast aren't you?

Just read a report about the enemy AI acting extremely smart, flanking, setting up ambushes dynamically, using cover and terrain, etc. turning a simple mission into a real tense fight.

He closed with the footnote: "I still expected more"

These kind of gamers kill the genre and discourage developers from doing another costly project. This kind of behavior is known around flight sim communities - look for the Jane's A-10 thread on these forums. What Codemaster is trying - is to bring smarter FPS games to wider audience - WHICH IS GOOD THING - this may save the genre - we will see in their sales if they succeeded.

Agreed as well. I know trolls often frequent forums but honestly the amount of trolling and cm bashing on flashpoint forums is sickening. So many premature hate threads from spoiled brats come up and mask whatever meaningful info you can get from being there.

I think it's great what cm did as well, especially with the console market which I have all but given up on.

I'm enjoying ofpdr on the 360, I get to think from the comforts of my couch. I spend enough time in the office :).

And a side note these forums are much more enjoyable to scroll through.

Seriously, I dont get the fascination with the ArmA-series, the controls are horrible, the graphics are dated and boring, the sound effects are bland and the gameplay as a whole is terrible. I like Dragon Rising a whole lot better, though there seems to be one major flaw with the game, and that is no joystick support...

:director:You probably never played a Coop Mission in Arma2 with 30+ people...

We need to come back to topic..OFP2.

I will take the best of both worlds.

Ouch, do not compare Arma2 with OFP2 here...:chair::D

yea its chalk and cheese

cheese being ofp 2 , jokes aside, the mission editor for pc version is very slick i love it , also the fast load times for transition to game ,

audio all round is fantastic - the helicopter sounds they are rediculis sounding.

camera views are terrible in game resticted to minimum fps mode, easy mode this should be allowed

more switchable views.

graphics are not bad . compared to aa2 imo models are not as good , or the animation movements of the models. , the m1a1 takes of like a sports car lol,

more aimed for console fan boys than pc simulation like aa2, all in all its a big fat fun badge for it.

i give it a good effort 6 out of 10

heres some screens.
