Stickers Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Well the AI teammates finally pissed me off a couple of times. They have a habit of walking up behind me and letting a few rounds off. I am pretty sure I am not running into there field of fire... but no big deal. I ment to say if you want to use the editor you should probably get it on PC, I don't think the 360 has one. I still haven't finished the campaign yet. Hopefully will tonight. One thing I found kind of funny was when I was assaulting a fuel station, I picked off a couple guys in the middle of it. But I guess.... I only wounded them? So the AI started to send the guys who where still alive to go treat the wounded... so I started shooting them.... but then it became a huge gaggle of enemy in the middle of the station and I couldn't kill them all! They kept reviving each other! An HE Grenade finally solved this problem. It was kinda neat though :)

Shaman Posted October 9, 2009 Author Posted October 9, 2009 I love it, I enjoy it, straight play time since my previous post. We are playing coop campaign through HAMACHI - better (no lags, feels like LAN - we are all in Poland though).. HAMACHI is better then to use default online support - which is laggy - I guess because of overloaded leaderboards/stats servers. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
Boulund Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) I've played it for several hours now and I must say I'm really enjoying it! I'm kind of getting good old Ghost Recon-feelings mixed with a little Delta Force sprinkled with imo a good blend of graphics. Admittedly, some things are a bit awkward (I won't be ranting here though!! ;)) but as a whole, both in SP and multiplayer (both coop campaign and the other modes) it is actually a lot of fun! Well worth the very modest sum of 250kr shipped to my door from the UK (I live in Sweden). It's out and about in Sweden for about 340-400kr so play.com really made this worth it! I can concur with you shamandgg about the hamachi play, VPN-LAN play with your friends is in fact better than going online with your friends. Though I use Leaf but same thing none-the-less. All in all, I'm very pleased. Someone should start cranking out nice coop-missions in the so far lovely editor (I'm too busy doing what ever it is that I'm doing) so me and my friends can get some more coop on. The AI in coop so far has been very pleasing, making nice flanking manouvers and not being the stupid/retarted AI we have all learnt to expect. Migo Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I get mine Monday I think. I heard lots of cons, already. Most people are angry about the bad texture resolution, would be cool if there will come a High Res Texture Mod ^^
Feuerfalke Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) I get mine Monday I think. I heard lots of cons, already. Most people are angry about the bad texture resolution, would be cool if there will come a High Res Texture Mod ^^ Some textures are better, some a worse. It's more like a compromise to use smaller textures on objects that are less important or less frequently visible in the game. Like sand and the blank floor, for example. The grass and bushes are much higher even on low details, so you rarely if ever see the ground. Other objects like stones and vehicles have good textures, those even closer, like the guns have even better. A good compromise, IMHO. After several hours of playing, I also cannot complain about realism and AI. The enemy has pretty smart guys and some rather seem to panik easily when fired upon. Overall they are much more agressive when they think they can easily win. When you see just a few and they leave their cover to come for you, turn around, there's some more flanking you. The same way they duck in and cover if they are under fire, some even panik when suppressed. More than that, the enemy does not only fire over cover. When they noticed you and can hide, they do so and only for short moments, one or the other peaks over the cover unless you ran into the trap - then all swing their guns over their cover and open fire. Same is for friendly AI. If you give them a simple move-order, one moves, the other cover. When the first reached the next cover, the next teammate moves. They also react very nicely to threats. Yes, sometimes when fired upon one of your guys keeps standing or just kneels down and keeps firing, but that is not a bug: In the meanwhile the other teammates can lay down or hide, while the enemy is supressed. And if that goes as planned, the enemy no longer fires at you, because they simply didn't see where you ran to. If everybody drops (happens as well), the enemy keeps firing at the last know position and sometimes sends out one or two soldiers to find you, while the rest holds position with guns ready. After playing both, ArmA2 and OFP2:DR, I think that OFP2:DR is easier accessable and controlable with just a few buttons. But as a result gameplay is more fluently and movement is much more natural than the sometimes edgy movement in ArmA2. You have less options (e.g. starting engine or not), granted, but that also gives the player a chance to concentrate on maneuvers and his actions. The command rose is complex in the first few hours, but once you memorized the combinations, you can give even complex orders in a matter of a second or two. Sound is awesome, btw. Especially when you call in artillery or when the sound is dampened by distance or hills in between. Only really bad thing I noted was the inability to join running MP-games =( - but even non-hamachi sessions are a blast, since more and more servers are going online over the weekend. A word on realism: I fired at an AT-soldier and hit his loaded rocket-launcher. I missed the guy but hit the launcher. The missile sticking in the back broke off and destroyed the launched oO Edited October 10, 2009 by Feuerfalke MSI X670E Gaming Plus | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 64 GB DDR4 | AMD RX 6900 XT | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | CreativeX G6 | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win11 64 HP | StreamDeck XL | 3x TM MFD

-fox- Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I went out and bought it today. Played one of the SP-missions (which took me almost 1:30h) and hell yeah, it's the tactic shooter (not sim!) I was hoping for! It's like Delta Force 2 mixed with Ghost Recon plus a capable modern engine. If you think that sounds like fun and if you can get over the misleading name, I can already recommend it.
Migo Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I like it to, completely other genre then ArmA 2, mre Ghost Recon like you said but is fun. Has to be some more added features like leaning and indicator which firemode/ammo one is usng. I shot about 10 riflegrenades in hardcore mode accidentally, because switching ammo didn't work or I couldn't remember which I was using. Also needs a compass in hardcore. It's hard to always look on the map to know if you're looking south, or noth or whatever.
Boulund Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 I cursed my guts out over not being able to see what firemode i was using in hardcore. Figured out you can scroll your mousewheel to see both firemode and other equipment even in hardcore. Still not perfect though, since you have to stand still while it is open... =/ Still love the game though! Have had several hours of pure fun in coop with a couple of friends this weekend. Black shark will have to wait until I move to my new place before I go through the process of connecting the hotas etc... Helicopter flying in OFDR so far is ... arcade. Still gets you from point A to B with rockets on top though! =) Core i5-760 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Geforce GTX470, Samsung SATA HDD, Dell UH2311H 1920x1080, Saitek X52 Pro., FreeTrack homemade cap w/ LifeCam VX-1000, Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1. Feuerfalke Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I got slightly sea sick with all that motion when you run around :/ Yeah, same here. Took some time to get used to. element1108 Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Yeah, same here. Took some time to get used to. It's a bit overdone IMHO. That's very common yeah, I'm lucky enough not to get this for some reason. I think it has to do with the FOV. If they had a third person option that might open up that "tunnel vision" a bit more.

-fox- Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 It's a bit strange because I don't get motion sickness from Dragon Rising (so far) but have had it with several other games already. I also don't get this everytime I play them, just occasionaly. Experienced it in Wolfenstein 3D the fist time and had it repeatedly in Morrowind.

I also don't get this everytime I play them, just occasionaly. Experienced it in Wolfenstein 3D the fist time and had it repeatedly in Morrowind. It's actually quite interesting this thing because I hardly ever get motion sickness from games, but put me in an airplane or on a boat (or even on buses or trains) I'm totally wasted from motion sickness trying to do anything but sit entirely still and focus on not feeling ill. I noticed the headbobbing and weapon movement was a bit over the top maybe, but so far nothing that gives me motion sickness. About them connection problems: no, so far I've only had one quick match that tried to connect but failed. All others have worked out just fine. The most annoying thing with online multiplayer is the fact that everyone has to press ready to get the mission started. The no join in progress as well... Mugenjin Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Even if the headbobbing/swaying is overdone, it's still more realistic than what most other games depict; after all you can't really 'sprint' with full combat gear, those extra kg's do make a difference mobility/speed. The swaying of the weapon is not that badly done, but in reality you don't notice it as much since you've got a wider FOV compared to what you get on a pc monitor.
