VS461 Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 (edited) Hi guys and girls, I am on making my first Black Shark video, with Fraps, Vegas 9 and 1.0.1 BS. I have an average of 70 FPS in gameplay but as I start to record, it drops to 30 and it becomes a slideshow; as I play back this, still slideshow. I set frame size to half but still the same. I don't know the FPS setting's function: as I set to 30, will it record on 30 or is it a minimum? Should I set it to 60 or so (and this caused another useless RTFM thread :D)? Is Fraps recording CPU-intensive? Or RAM? Does affinity settings count (one core for BS and one for Fraps)? Can I use GPU power somehow? Should I set save location onto another hard drive? I run Win 7 RC x64 powered by an E8400@3GHz, 2x2GiB DDR2 800 and an HD4850@625/993MHz @ 1680x1050 and Catalyst 9.9 with all quality settings on maximum. Thanks in advance! PS: an :poster_offtopic: OC issue playing Black Shark: I overclocked the processor to 3.6 GHz but NOSIG in FPS... I OC-ed my Sapphire VGA to their Toxic edition clock speeds (675/1100 MHz) and gameplay was stuttering (sound either!)... I OC-ed the VGA to the Catalyst auto-tuned maximum (690/1188 MHz) and square-centimeter-sized, colorful pixels began to run across the monitor:). I have Scythe Ninja 2 and Musashi on them, so overheat cannot be a problem. Who knows computers..? Maybe I saw the moment of the rise of Skynet... Cheers! Feuerfalke Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 There are a lot of things to consider when overclocking. In one sentence: Just raising frequencies does not necessarily mean better framerates. You have to check voltages, linked frequencies (e.g. PCIe-port frequency), features that cause trouble when overclocking (e.g. all power-saving-routines), etc. MSI X670E Gaming Plus | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | 64 GB DDR4 | AMD RX 6900 XT | LG 55" @ 4K | Cougar 1000 W | CreativeX G6 | TIR5 | CH HOTAS (with BU0836X-12 Bit) + Crosswind Pedals | Win11 64 HP | StreamDeck XL | 3x TM MFD
sobek Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Would be nice to be able to render tracks and export to a video format...;) 100fps videos anyone? Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
CAT_101st Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 I have the same problem with Win 7 I play missions in win 7 and take the tracks to record in XP I get better FPS recording in XP due to rame and CPU are not taken up so much Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. VS461 Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 (edited) Hey all, thanks for your replies. I have Fraps 2.9.7, now updating to latest, and will try it next week. Feuerfalke: I am the rookiest guy in overclocking, so I asked my colleagues and googled some noob OC threads. I did it according to them, I got a stable clock speed on that Vcore, Prime95 worked all night well but sure I haven't got enough time and patience yet (oc-ing RAM, other voltages, other stuff) and didn't want a $800 well done steak in my case ;). As 59th_Wittmann said: bash method ain't work in overclocking...:D. So I temporarily freezed the issue, as I have the average 70 FPS on factory clocks and volts of RAM, CPU and VGA, with max quality sets... I know, I know, why OC-ing necessary, as I ain't interested in 3DMark, SuperPi, Furmark etc. scores... CAT_101st: my XP SP3 is slow, don't know why (it was this kinda slow on my brand new rig as well when it was a clean install), maybe I will reinstall it once more before Seven's launch, but I am lazy...;) 159th_Viper: simple but wise solution, will try next week :D. hitman Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 I didnt know 30fps was a slide show when the average eye can only see 29.92fps. One should be so lucky to get more than 30fps using fraps. My last rig (6gbs corsair xms3, i7 o/c to 4.0ghz, GTX 260 core 216, etc) got only 35 fps max in fraps.
VS461 Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 With 30 FPS in the upper left corner, both gameplay, track replay and recorded video in the xyz player are stuttering. I call it slideshow, cause it didn't happen with Lock On, an older Fraps, on my old rig (A64 3500+, 2 GB DDR400, 7600GT, XP); sorry for misunderstanding:). And, it can be some hardware or software problem. Maybe latest Fraps solves this. За всю историю никто и никогда не сумел завоевать Афганистан. Hикто и никогда
VS461 Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 (edited) Solved Hi guys and girls, I think I have the solution, besides I upgraded Fraps to 2.9.9: I set framerate to half-size I set FPS to 29.92 Maybe some PAL replay issue, or I don't know. And, of course, save 1680x1050 pics 30 times a second, maybe this ain't for my rig. Who knows... Now I have smooth (30 FPS:)) track replay and video replay with VLC playa. If this matters, I ask for a "Solved" remark into thread title. Thanks for all your help! Cheers! What seems to be the problem, sir? RECORD AVI - a Mission Editor tool This topic looks like least 'accidental' of all FRAPS topics I've found so I'll post few of my tips here. I wrote them down for someone on YouTube but someone here may find them useful too. Here we go: Unfortunately there is no recorder like in ED sims. One option is to record using fraps just like in any other game. Another option is to record a recorded replay using fraps too. It could give higher FPS, but not necessarily. And the other option does not give cockpit view and fecks up all the sounds! Tips re using FRAPS and other real-time in-game recording software: HDD performance 1. Use a second hard drive! HDDs suck. When given to execute two tasks in parallel their performance degrade not by half but by far more. 2. Take advantage of the fact that the outer disk tracks (first partition, usually the C partition) provide almost 200 % of performance of inner tracks. See the image below: As you can see this applies to both continuous read OR write operation (large files, our FRAPS case) as well as for access time, which in turn is crucial for system and desktop performance. FPS still too low 3. If output FPS is still too low try recording in lower resolution (but always recording resolution = in-game resolution!) You can record, for example, in windowed mode, 800x600 and make it into a 1280x720 HD video WITHOUT RESCALING (huge quality degradation). Use video editor 'letter box' or 'add black borders' function. Here's an example of video of letterboxed, not rescaled video (slightly cropped, upper/bottom part) that gave the best possible quality when uploading a non standard resolution vid to YouTube. wtfisgoingon Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Anyone just about ANYONE can easily spot the difference between 30fps or 60 fps, 100fps. I personally have never and would NEVER play anything with less than 50ish fps and thats only if its a single player type game. Any kind of FPS game that involves aiming I would rather play tic tac toe with pen/paper that try to sludge through 30fps.. I could be tested 1000 times in a row, and guess each time within 2 seconds what my FPS is in any given game. Why the hell does someone always have to start the 'human eye can only see 30fps' crap all the time. Get some glasses,a clue, do some testing yourself and stfu.
