Bee_Sting Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 i have been playing online for weeks and no players(well no good players). can you play dcs on other servers, other than the ones that were provided to you with the game?
joey45 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 you'll be amazed how many do. EDIT: Join a squad or a sqd server. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Zakk Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Nope, played it for 5 months straight after it was released in Dec 08; it's getting close to a year so how much more can I take? I'll hold my breath for A-10 and PC BF1943. Gigabyte|Q6600|8GB DDR3|GTX285|Win7 64|X-65
Boberro Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 There are many players.... Of course if u expect to have Il-2 Sturmovik population you will be sad when u won't see so many ppl. ;] 1 Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... ericinexile Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 It's a "Study Sim". Not much to "study" online I guess. I've tried online but I get more lonely there than I do on my own. At least on my own there are guaranteed targets to search for. The other reason I now rarely go online are ping timouts (low ping!!!). Even though that's likely a problem on my end, it happens nowhere else. Finally, some people want to fight with other players. Doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm for that with DCS. Smokin' Hole My DCS wish list: Su25, Su30, Mi24, AH1, F/A-18C, Afghanistan ...and frankly, the flight sim world should stop at 1995.
Geier Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Nope. My experience consists of several training flights because I don't like helos 1
159th_Falcon Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 i have been playing online for weeks and no players(well no good players). can you play dcs on other servers, other than the ones that were provided to you with the game? You call ME, NOT GOOD?? No seriously, population can be low at times but there are enough other good players around. Maybe try to fly on other times during the day? Something i find a really frustrating is seeing like 10 servers of which 7 orso or Password protected and all those PW protected servers are sitting there empty for hours. So here an request for the people hosting those servers, When your not flying there whit your friends please either close the server and safe some $$$ from your electricity bill or remove the PW so other people can have some fun to. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
MackTheKnight Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 There were 9 of us in the DFA server on Monday night. We had a blast.
SnowTiger Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Hello to "MackTheKnight" ... my fellow Canadian. I am also in Ontario, Canada. Maybe we can hook up online for some flight training together some time ?? I have only been online a couple times. One time there didn't appear to be anyone else online. Another time there were only a few ... some of which were Password Protected and one other time when there seemed to be quite a few online. I think ... as was already mentioned, that the time of day and day of week does make a difference, especially when so many appear to be in Europe OR somewhere other than North America. Therefore, Time Zones have an effect. .. i.e. we sleep while they fly and visa-versa. BTW- I am "very new" to DCS Black Shark and thus still have very much to learn. Only recently did I decide to say "to heck with Game Mode" and start the Sim Mode so I can actually learn something. Furthermore, I am still trying to get my X-52 set up in both modes .. while not really knowing what I am doing. BUT I hope to be online allot this winter (I am retiring my business of 20 years this xmas) since I will have lots of time on my hands. Hopefully, by then I will be Half-A$$ competent in BS. OTHERWISE, I hope I have opportunity to hook up with one or two others that are fairly new to the game and/or have reasonable skill along with the time and patience to work with an amature like me. I really, really, really badly want to learn this aircraft ASAP. I flew Jane's Longbow (1 & 2) for almost 3 years. Longbow 2 for 18 months straight .. every single day for minimum 12 hours per day. I flew with a great sim pilot and friend from USA. We had a ball .... kicking A$$. Anyway, I can relate to "Bee-Sting" in that it can be frustrating to go online and not find anyone to fly with ... especially if he is anything like me .... i.e. not yet all that good a flyer in BS. Have a great day everyone ... hope to see many of you online in the near future. If you see me ... please consider saying hello and I hope you will spend some time with me to help me overcome some of the learning curve too. MackTheKnight Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Nice to see a fellow Canadian on here. I'll PM you some contact info and we can see about flying online sometime. I agree with your points and also want to point out that I think a Study Sim like Blackshark, attracts a more mature audience (for the majority), and thus folks of said maturity may not dedicate as much time to simming as say a young teen would to CoD4 or something like that. I would imagine alot of us may have other obligations that keep us from enjoying our hobbys as much. Thus the smaller # of servers online at given times of the day/week. This is in no way meant to offend any of the younger folks that enjoy this sim. Just a point that I think deserves being mentioned. :) -Mack
Kurtz Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Combat Heli sims are complex which makes them less attractive to the run of mill sim community. The public multiplay community tends to be quite small, but that being said its not that hard to organise regular flights if you put a few things in place. 1. Establish a point of contact eg: Xfire, MSN etc 2. Frequent a comms server. Multiplay is crap without comms. So install Teamspeak, or Ventrillo. These two points allow squadrons to function, as well as pub players. I flew EECH and EECH2 multiplay for two years on a regular basis with a small community that consisted of 2 Australians, 1 German, 2 Americans, 1 Englishman. We just had a point of contact and common comms server. In our case we utilized the SimHQ TS server and Xfire. DCS multiplay took a hit as well when it was patched. Servers were common, and in my case I had nearly 80 multiplay missions availlable. These missions become redundant, or required debugging due to trigger change in patch. This I imagined drained the enthusiasm from many mission builders, due to the amount of time involved in building missions that became patch redundant. All is not lost though, as If you can find yourself a regular fly buddy, its not that hard creating multiplay content by a simple edit to convert campaign missions in to 2-4 slot multiplay giving you 100+ mission content. My personal view though is that this game needs a dynamic campaign engine the likes of EECH/Falcon in order to give it any multiplay longivity. Quality mission building is obviously too laborious, otherwise with a simulator of this outstanding quality we would be flooded with content.
