Frazer Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 HokumSounds_v1 Features: - Replaces the Ka-50 rotor and engine sounds. - Sound.cfg has been tweaked. The "HokumSounds" are tested in "DCS: Black Shark 1.0.1c" and can be installed with ModMan 7 or replaced by hand. 21GT_Tigre Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Hello , Frazer A information, this mod replaces only the sounds of the rotor and the motors or also other? Thanks , regards
Frazer Posted January 17, 2010 Author Posted January 17, 2010 The mod replaces the following sounds: EngineTV3117.wav EngineTV3117_.wav EngineTV3117In.wav EngineTV3177.wav RotorKa50.wav RotorKA50Dyn.wav RotorKA50Hi.wav RotorKA50Noise.wav So, yes, only the rotors and engine sounds. You can install this mod over other soundmods, as it only replaces the ka-50 sounds. Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

S77th-ReOrdain Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Thanks Frazer, these sounds are very good. 1
21GT_Tigre Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Beautiful job To my opinion they are the best sounds available for rotors and engine dedicated to the KA-50 . Very good , thanks Regards 1
STP Dragon Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 (edited) Soooooo.... Frazer.... :P I found the time to test your sound. :D What I find good: The sound is very realistic. I saw the original Ka-50-Videos and the sound is similar. What I find not that good: The volumes of the sounds are wrong. (default soundsettings) If you open the cockpitdoor the sound periphery will get quieter. The sound in the cockpit is to loud and the sound of the rotor and engins is to quiet. I changed that on my PC: EngineTV3117.wav <- +3DB EngineTV3117_.wav <- +3DB EngineTV3117In.wav <- -3DB EngineTV3177.wav <- +3DB RotorKa50.wav <- +9DB RotorKA50Dyn.wav <- +9DB RotorKA50Hi.wav <- let it like it is. RotorKA50Noise.wav <- muted this sound because it is the sound appears in the soundbug you can't skip by F2->F1. Resume: Sound is good, I will keep it. ;) I have a question: What did you changed in the sound.cfg? Woots Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 (edited) I compared the Hokum sound mod to the Arma2 sound mod. They are close but I prefer the Arma2 engine noise. Just a personal preference, they're both great. Actually, I opened both the Hokum and Arma2 .zip files and dragged and dropped the individual sound files to make my own personal mix. Just open each .zip file in a separate window and click to play identically named sounds files back to back so you can compare each. Pick the one you like best and drop it in the effects folder. I'm currently flying with my own blend. Give it a try (keep the original files in case you want to go back). Edited February 10, 2010 by Woots [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kenetic Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Just installed the Hokum sounds and they are great. Thanks Frazer!

RotorKA50Noise.wav <- muted this sound because it is the sound appears in the soundbug you can't skip by F2->F1. Resume: Sound is good, I will keep it. ;) I have a question: What did you changed in the sound.cfg? Regarding the sound volumes. I balanced the sounds so that it sounds very similar to the video. Some may find that the cockpit sound (EngineTV3117In.wav) is too loud because they don't hear the rotor sounds very well. There are two reasons why I made the cockpit sound quite loud: 1 - as you can hear in the movie, when in a hover, you barely hear the rotors flapping. The flaping sound becomes much more obvious when the rotors are under stress (high speed and turns), the exact way it is in the mod now. 2 - originally you hear the explotions and other aircraft sounds very loud in the cockpit. I found this unreal and so the loud cockpit sound reduces this aswell. Please note that the main sound leveler in BS options should be adjusted so that the cockpit sound is at a comfortable level. About the engine sounds (EngineTV3117.wav & EngineTV3117_.wav) Please note that the real engine sound (the high pitched sound) comes from the "RotorKa50.wav" sound file! I could not find a good record of the Ka-50 engines without any flapping or other distortions. And so, the original game engine sounds should only be hearable on engine startup! About the RotorKA50Noise.wav You are right, this sound is very buggy which often can't be solved by F1-F2 switching. If I would make a second version of the HokumSounds this sound will be muted. Please also note that I do sound testing/editing with a headset on. If you use speakers the sounds may not be exactly as they are intended. Different sound cards could also make the sound experience different. After all, you are ofcourse free to do whatever you want with the sounds to make them sound good for you. Sounds are often also personal preference. About the sound.cfg I can make a big explanatory of what everything means in the sound.cfg though this will be very time consuming. Time I do not have at the moment. Most of it is quite obvious and if not you can find out quite easily by changing values. To find out what exactly I changed you could compare the original and the modded sound.cfg. Hint: the changes are made in the lines of the corresponding sounds in the mod. Vecko Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Can someone ,with some sound editing experinence, try to isolate that rotor flaping sound from video? In combination with Frazer's "EngineTV3117In.wav" that can be almost identical sound.I tryed something but i don't have good results.:) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Virtual Aerial Operations

But at the end, this does not matter that much. The only thing you do is seperate the sounds, to make them sound the same again as they are now. The next best thing would be a new (bugfree) sound engine, not different sounds..... Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ScEBlack1 Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Frazier is the sound setting for the mod that you show to set it at what you yourself keep it at in game? just curious, thanks.

Griffin Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 (edited) I liked the in cockpit sound but the externals didn't have enough slapping and bass so I went back to Improved Rotor 2 mod. Generally, normal consumer camcoders are terrible for authentic loud sound recording and the videos only give a clue to what to expect. This is why, for example, weapon sounds in videos/games/movies always sound different. It's just almost impossible to record an authentic sound that is so loud without distorting. I might try combining these two. Keep up the good work though! Edited March 3, 2010 by Griffin
BKLronin Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) Nice work Frazer! I was´nt to sure about the improved rotor mod but I really love to have this one. Sounds good even if it´s not absoloutely realistic according to the source material it anyway just sounds authentic :) Thanks! EDIT: Should be the best available until any real KA 50 Pilot equipped with HQ audio systems records all the sounds directly :P Edited March 31, 2010 by BKLronin [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
