GuntiNDDS Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Hey everyone. I was wondering if someone feels like sharing some tipps for landing on a FARP. 1
Frazer Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I see that many people land with their nose streight towards the farb or landing area. Thing is though, not like many other helicopter types, you can not see a darn thing. What I do is fly towards the farb with around 25 degrees nose off to the right. Then you can look forward/down to see where you are going. Will provide a track later. btw, lmao at that picture :D Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Griffin Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 What Frazer said. I usually land with a left slide of up to 45 degrees because the left door window is large. Don't forget to trim and start slowing down in time. 1
L4key Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I get to a stable hover about 10m above the ground just off and 45 degrees (as the above posters said) to the side of the pad and nose forward slowly and slightly to the side. It helps to be as low as possible when close to the FARP so you can see it, but approach from the side with no buildings/vehicles! As soon as you touch down, even if it is a bit bumpy, kill (re-centre) all the trim to avoid falling over! 1
CAT_101st Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I do the sme thing. but you can also land comming straight in. If you have Tir or FT this will work for you. Just sit slightly higher in your seet loonik over the nose keep the fare edge of the landing pad just above the nose. You shuld only see the back edge and corners of the pad. this will bring you all the way into the middle of the pad. It takes alot of pratic to get it right. :pilotfly:  I like the PIC LOL 1 Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. GuntiNDDS Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 Thanks. Good tipps with the 45 degree offset. gonna try that. also downloading track now. thanks for providing it :D
ARM505 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Into wind helps too - I've seen some people try it downwind, it makes it noticeably harder.
Prophet4no1 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I come in at an angle like the others, but also open the door when I get close. Makes it a lot easier to see the ground and the pad. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

It's a way ofcourse, but not something they will do in real life ;) Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Prophet4no1 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Once my TrackIR shows up, I may not have to do that any more. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Scooternutz Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Check the wind direction and land into the head wind if possible. Coming at an offset is absolutely the way it is done. Landed on a pitching deck many times and was almost always at an offset to get a safe view. In a high wind the airframe is going to want to line up with the slip so be prepared for rudder shift at touchdown. 159th_Falcon Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Hell, even commercial airline pilots come in side-slipping to get an better view of the runway:D:D:music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
talisman Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I will somtimes use the same technique as landing on ships, come abeam to the pad and then sideslip onto the pad. power5 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) No idea how those airliners tires dont rip off on those landings. My BS tires do when I am just a bit out of whack on my landings. I use the OP technique with much success. Crew chief should be happy and not complain. In today's world economies he is lucky to have a job. Edit, oops wrong thread. Oh well. joey45 Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I normaly close my eyes and hope for the best.. you know what they say "any landing you can walk/crawl/get carried/live* away from is a good landing" *delete not applicable Back OT. I normaly slid like the others The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. I should be flying lots more in the next week or so. Then ill probably need re-training from the start :P Dont expect me to be any goot it though, more likely to get caught up in the rigging.
