Never, ever, listen to "mainstream media" on matters of science. Read the source material. (Though this particular article was relatively good.)

 

That the poles are drifting isn't a matter of speculation - it's something that is being continually tracked. If it keeps it's current momentum the magnetic north will be on Siberian soil in some 20-25 years. Whether it'll get there specifically or actually invert before then is unknown, ofc.

 

And it should also be noted that the shortening/lenghtening of days talked about is average values. Yesterday and today were not equally long - scientists have been tracking these changes for a long time and most of them are due to something as simple as what the weather is like (air friction against mountains etc). That a quake would have an effect is obvious. :P

 

And note that what they were talking about was the figure axis, not the "regular" rotation axis. Big difference.

Earth poles were always "drifting" and in earth history have several times flipped (magnetic north pole switching to south).

 

That has nothing to do with global warming, though.

As for the poles changing, they already did hundreds of times, mass extintions did not occur, I read somehwere that it will take thousands of years and most of that time the stremgth of the field varies, its lower on some years only to recover periodicaly on following years untill it shifts definitively.

name one news station isnt biased in any way. fox is straight up republican, cnn is straight up democratic. every news station has their own agenda, dont be flip about it. biased opinions lead to twisted truths, which are flat out lies. they arent in business to inform you at breakfast btw, they are there to help their agendas. i dont watch news anymore because its disgustful.
