Downey Jr. Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 (edited) so...I turned on rotor anti ice when EKRAN told me to...and still...as you can see below I failed...what else should I have done? (did not have enough power...systems battery /ELEC ACUM warning showed up...how do you get that warning? I got it last mission too) Also in the manual and videos no where can I find a detailed explanation on how the helm mounted sight targeting works and what the cannon MOVE/FIX etc...options do for both cannon and rocket targeting ...does a reticle mode actually appear to give you a fixed targeting sight for rockets and cannons when you need to run and gun? Does the manual explain this panel? EDIT: NOTE I know how to use the Shkval of course...to move the cannon around...I want to know for rockets and cannon how to shoot unguided... 26-J39 Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 1. Going by the picture looks like a blade strike. 2. The ELEC ACUM warning will show when your generators are offline, double check they are switched on. 3. When the weapons mode switch is in MOVE the cannon is slaved to the shkval, when in FIX it is centered and locked. This switch does not affect rockets.

Are you trying to fly straight up the mountain? Because if you are, and don't make it over, you either a) started to climb too late, or b) tried to fly straight up when way too close instead of flying circles. Also when climbing, maintain 130 km/h IAS for optimum climb rate (if you go slower, you will climb slower, so no pulling on the stick to barely make it over the top, because that will make you enter a hover, unable to maintain altitude). Oh and turn that engine anti ice on.;) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
G3 Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 also if i remember correctly some of the the anti ice switches need to be toggled twice to get to anti ice, not dust protect
MTFDarkEagle Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 also if i remember correctly some of the the anti ice switches need to be toggled twice to get to anti ice, not dust protect  Or you can right click :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
joey45 Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 turn them on at start-up, not when the heli tells you to. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. vortex360 Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Utilizing the trim too much can do this. Also having the collective and the throttle on the same flight-stick control can cause rotor damage.
Downey Jr. Posted March 14, 2010 Author Posted March 14, 2010 thanks folks...some things were very useful...confirms the same issues as with any other craft in high icy altitudes...like in FSX gaining altitude in those conditions takes some planning...and yes Ill do the other anti ice switches well before hand as well and see how it works. basically I was trying to go over the mountain...I assume I was losing pressure fast... btw that pic...yeah I didnt crash because of over-trim or rotors breaking...that was me rolling down the hill cause I didn't have enough power to climb over Still wondering though as Im looking for I know Move and Fix what about the other modes there I cannot read in the pit?
Frederf Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Most people do this their first time they play the Altitude mission. EKRAN says "Turn on rotor anti-ice!" and they dutifully comply only to crash because the engine anti-ice was required as well. I'm 99% confident that this was the cause. As for shooting rockets (or cannon in fix mode) you pick your target with the Shkval and then line up the HUD cursors before firing.
Garfieldo Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 (edited) The HMS is only good for quickly pointing the Shkval in the general direction of a target, so you dont have to slew it all the way over to it. Make sure the Shkval is not locked on anything, activate HMS (h). "Look" at target - which has to be within Shkval range - and uncage Shkval (o). Fine tune with the slew buttons. I highly recommend pages 11-14 : 11-29 in the manual, as these also cover the gun fix switch. EDIT: The 5 positions of the "MOV,FIX, etc..." switch are covered on page 6-89 in the manual.
