Now FC2 is about to be released, I'm about to upgrade to a new system and Win 7. Thing is, do I go for 32bit, 64bit, Home, Professional or Ultimate? I'm mainly interested in using this new rig for gaming (specifically DCS and FC2) and various other games (FPS type). I do a little surfing, watching movies and some Office stuff, but my main reason for upgrade is DCS Black Shark/A10 and FC2. I also want to be able to use my TIR4 and Saitek X52 Pro and Rudder pedals.

I'm looking at an i7 overclocked from 2.8Ghz to 4Ghz with an ATI graphics card (not sure which one yet), and 6Gb RAM @ 1600Mhz.

Any advice will be welcomed, thanks in advance.

64 bit Home Premium. No sense paying honey for stuff you won't ever use or not even knowing such existed.

As above, HP x64. If you look at the additional features of Pro and above and are not sure if you need them, then you don't. For 90% of people Home Premium is all you need.

No reason not to go for a 64bit OS these days, all the driver/hardware issues of old have long gone, and 64bit is the only way you can make use of any more than 4Gb of RAM.

I'm fairly certain any hardware that is of reasonable age has the 64-bit instruction set.

If it is so ancient that it doesn't, then no, installing a 64-bit OS on it is not a good idea.

A 64 bit system has nuthing to do with the os. Also win 7 pro supports win XP softwair. So if you have any old programs that run only on XP you shuld get the Pro version.

Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. HTC VIVE VR.

The only hardware that determines if your computer is 64bit compatible or not is the CPU. A 64bit OS will not run on a cpu that doesnt support the x86-64 extended instruction set (or other 64bit technology such as Itanium which uses Risk technology and Enterprise software). However, unless your system is using a cpu older than Athlon64/early Pentium4 in which case you probably cant run DCS anyway, you should not worry about whether it is 64bit or not.

There is to my no knowledge no performance difference between Windows 7 Home Premium and Ultimate. Ultimate simply includes some extra features designed for business purposes such as remote networking capabilities and some things that the average joe wouldnt know what to do with.

Intel i7 990X, 6GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 470 x2 SLI, Win 7 x64
