I don't see any technical reason it would hinder compatibility... That would simply be an issue up to the mission designers. Other than the AIM-9 and fancy gun sights, the F-86 has the advantage in air to air.

More from a combined-ops immersion standpoint.

Then again it'd be great fun to use an F-15/16/18 to simulate

An F-35 sim would definetly be a great one without a doubt. The only problems are resources, since we don't even know what speed it can go. Another problem is simply that it might be too easy, unless we make it difficult on ourselves on purpose or bring the Georgian theater to 2020 or so (when the T-50/J-20 will be out).

On the upside, name something the F-35 CAN'T do. It does ground attack, strike, CAP, CAS, maybe not interception, but mostly everything. There are CTOL, V/STOL, and Carrier versions, as well as the CF-35 which will have a drag chute for icy runways. If you want diversity, look no further.

It can't go mach 2.5 ... can't supercruise at M1.7 ...

The poll in the original post is severely limited.

Not to mention only one of em has even as much as a snowball's chance in hell of being a dcs module. I never voted in it myself. What was funny was when someone posted, "See the F-18 won, that's the one the community wants most" as if the poll had some kind of scientific validity :D Sorry, not with these choices. Perhaps wipe all the choices and votes and put in more realistic set of choices?

What could be done, just for fun, would be a "fantasy next DCS aircraft" poll/playoff, like this:

http://www.gamespot.com/greatest-video-game-hero/standings/index.html

Only with our favorite next-DCS aircraft :) Then you'd get a much better feeling of what the community favorites were, and have a lot of fun at it too :)

But who the hell has the time to organize that crap.

This is why the next DCS Module should be the Viper MkII. You'll know it when you see it.

I voted the Hornet (C version please), but now I think I would like the AV-8B Harrier II+. No game has properly simulated a Harrier, and I doubt Jet Thunder will ever be finished.

Oh, I got it! Viper MkII can do carrier ops! I said something about wanting a tailhook before, but I think this is good enough. It does catapult launches after all.

On the upside, name something the F-35 CAN'T do.

It can't meet it's budget demands.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

There's the fact that no F-86's are in front line service anywhere in the world. So having them engage an A-10C at all is pretty silly and takes away any realism from the game.

If you were going to have a realistic and enjoyable F-86 simulation, then I'm expecting that the entire world (friendly units and enemy units) would be from the same time period. Just throwing the F-86 into a modern world would be ridiculous. If they actually do a Sabre module, I highly doubt there would be compatibility between modules.

Don't some third world countries use the SBD Dauntless still?

It certainly is very limited.

On that note, if anyone's at Spangdahlem AB in Germany over this weekend, there's going to be an F-35 there for the air show.

Wish I could be there.

But according to the Spangdahlem AB website, there's only gonna be F-16 and A-10 flying display!??

Well the F-16 demo team's coming out, but our E-models will be too broke to fly so they'll be stuck on the ramp, wallowing in their own fluids where they belong.

It's better to wallow in fluid then nose plant into the runway and cartwheel onto the Spangdahlem golf course. (F-15C)

You mentioned the F-35: IIRC it's mentioned to be some kind of a mock-up or something?

Don't know about that, I just saw on the list that we're going to be right between a MiG and a Tornado (don't know if it's German or English or what) with an F-35 on the end. If it is a mockup that'd be disappointing, but I guess it depends on how accurate it is. If it's something Lockheed put together it might be good enough to still be pretty sweet. At the same time, it'll make me ask why the F-35 is nothing but vaporware still :p

Still though, getting away from the flightline for a few days to get piss drunk in Germany, who cares why I'm there.

There's also going to be an A-10 weapons setup, I assume it'll be the whole spread-out thing.

The first operational vaporware F-35 landed at some airbase somewhere in the US some short time ago. Or so they say.
