Hey guys.

I had some time to kill and wanted to try something out. Here's the small test i did:

Why make it?

Well, to see what works really.

What to look for here (for those who cares :P ):

- Color toning. Darker contrast, less saturated.

- Lens flares (tried not to totally over-do them)

- Overall glow to the whole scene.

-Camera angle, with the intended goal of having the A-10 pass by close to the camera, and then head off to the left and fire 2 missiles.

- Tried to simulate a more "Natural feel" to the shot, by constantly moving the camera.

And of course, sounds from the real deal, more or less. Also tried simulating sound delay.

Cheers movie-fans (and a-10 fans alike ;) )

I'd like to fly in similar colors in game :P I like similar ones.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Just a comment or two, if you'll permit.

Sound Delay feels weird. This is probably because it is not something normally seen in Hollywood movies, an audience is not conditioned to seeing it. It comes across as the sound being out of sync.

The constant camera movement is a good idea, but this implemetaion of it doesn't feel right. It is like the camera is mounted on a bobble head toy. You've done it much better in parts of EDGE IMHO.

Other than that is looks great, especially the plane to camera motion, and subtle lens flare.

I'm starting to agree on you with the "wobble thingy", after also hearing this from GG. About the sound delay, you are absolutly 100% correct. It's not used in hollywood movies. Hardly ever actually.

I'm sure i'll find a fine line between realistic and "movie-like" when i start producing the final movie. :)

Looks great. Cought the delay right away and tought it was a bit long. the wobble thing well you can guss on that. other than that WOW can't wait for the full thing.

I think it looks fantastic!!

I think the sound delay in the mavs being fired is perfect. I really like it. I think it adds to the authenticity.

Im sure it will be kick ass as usual, and ill watch it 300 times.

Dont let the smell get to ya...............

It will be somewhere closer to 6 minutes ;)

Will your movie include a release window?

Wao! Looks amazing..

Engine sounds are perfect, but the flares and AGM launches sound a bit synthesized or artificial to me. Shouldn't at least the flares sound more like a "snap"-ish low-explosives sound, as this vid shows at around 3min30sec: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfeGPyQKaL0&feature=related?

I love the sound delay though. Hollywood can go to a certain place where the sun don't shine if you ask me, realistic time-delay is about as cool as it gets for sound effects. Have you calculated distance/time etc to get it 100% right, or are you guesstimating it?

The AGM sounds are recording of real missiles. Maybe not Mav's but still a missile beeing fired. That's good enough for me. Plus i like the sound of it. Don't worry, i have other missile sounds too of course...

About the flares, and the video you posted.. The sounds of the flares you see in that video has been added in post production. The flare sounds i used was also taken from some documentary, and it showed a couple of A-10's releasing flares, using the sounds i used for this test clip.

About the sound delay thing, im going like this: If it looks good, if it sounds good, it's ALL good!

Good video.

My thoughts: The wobbles were too frequent, if they were spaced slightly further apart and a little slower it may work better (I know how hard these are to get right). Sounds delay, although as mentioned above is realistic, it is definitely not what we are used to seeing. Cool though.

EDIT: First time I watched I didnt like the sound delay, but the more I watch, the more it grows on me...What to make of that I do not know.

About the sound delay thing, im not 100% sure yet if i will have it like that throughout the movie, since it WILL have lots of exciting music playing with it, when stuff gets hectic.

Maybe for distant explosions, then maybe.. but i will have to see how it all plays together with the music+footage+sounds.. It's the overall experience that matters in the end, isnt it? ;)

I see GA, it must be my ears then :P Don't get me wrong the sounds are cool, just a bit flat and discant-dominated if that makes any sense. Buuut if they're from real flares and missile launches, calling them synthesized is pretty far off, heh.

As for sound delay, that's what I thought ;) Personally I'd tone them down by 30-50% I think, just from the percieved distance to the plane (and completely from the top of my head..)

Ooooh, while I'm on the subject; have you considered putting in something showing off the 30mm supersonic ammo? Not sure if there are HE shells in LO that would make that work..

Anyways, keep up the good work!

Very nice, looks fantastic. I like the delay- makes you feel you are watching from another aircraft rather than watching a movie- as already stated, creates immersion. I would agree that it does feel like its delayed a little long, but at 330m/s it is probably close...

I like the sound delay, if I heard that sound of the mav firing in real time I would think it was weird. I would just cut to closeup of the mav flame bursting to keep the sound in real time to satisfy the "hollywood types" hehe. Then cut back to a long shot as the missile trails away. Obviously it's one shot and it's by no means a complaint...you'd probably never see a long shot like that for an action sequence in a hollywood movie. Hollywood would have like 16 cuts in there ;).

As always GA, great work!

Great preview G-A! I really like both the sound and the camera work there! I also like the reduced gamma/brightness of the vid.

However I'd like to see a vid from you that has less focus on the soundtrack and more effects and environment sounds in it!

I think you may have got this the other way around...

I spend like 5% of my time making and tuning the soundtrack to my fitting, and the other 95% on recording, effects and audio.

Every little sound you hear in my movies (Project 50, Speed, EDGE, etc..) has got'n quite a bit of attention to it, to make it sound as good as possible. Or are you talking about me making a movie without any music at all?
