Lancelot Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Not complaining about the patch, well just a little bit :), its great, but just when i'm starting to get in to this sim, i learn by reading the manual how to set a radio station frequency and hear it, and by reading the forum how to hear internet radio stations while flying, and with patch 1.02 we lost all that :( I want to hear some music while practicing flying this beast, because i can see that it will take a lot of hours to master. And the possibility to hear music while flying using my own created audio files was very apealing. What is the problem with the new engine sound that we cant have anymore this great feature!. Please give it back! :helpsmilie: :music_whistling: Thanks for the support, and my apologies for the complain, i usually don't post complaints, but it's like a small step back to have lost this possibility. Thanks ED anyway for the sim, its awesome! :pilotfly:
Griffin Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I'm not sure but the internet radio mod should work. It doesn't have anything to do with the actual sound engine I believe.
Amarok_73 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Have You heard about... Winamp? Or Aimp? Radio in BS was buggy, so if decision about disabling of this option was made with care about stability of simulator, I can understand this decision. EtherealN Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 It wasn't strictly a case of "disabling" the option - it was a case of the entire sound engine from 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 being thrown out and replaced by a new one. (One that has sound speed, mach cone, frequency attenuations and so on.) EtherealN Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Yes, but I get more immersion from things like being sonic-boomed by a fighter that's passing overhead, explosion sound lag, low-pass sound attenuation and such things rather than just tuning in a music station. If I did something like that IRL I'd get grounded for reckless flying. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

Especially in a single seat stone age helicopter :P But then I'm far from jumping in to someone else's topic yelling "naaah, you don't need it!". But still it is of low priority compared to the new sound engine benefits or wingmen *cuagh* AI :music_whistling: F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close
ED Team c0ff Posted May 27, 2010 ED Team Posted May 27, 2010 Proper 'radio station' support requires streaming music from the disk. Old engine just loaded the files into memory. New engine also does not have streaming yet. Given tight memory constraints we have in a 32-bit application, radio stations in their existing form were removed for the sake of stability. Yes, some people are upset, but hopefully we have less Crash-To-Desktop reports. Given enough development resources, radio stations will return in a more pleasant and user-extendable form. Though, no promises. Dmitry S. Baikov @ Eagle Dynamics LockOn FC2 Soundtrack Remastered out NOW everywhere - https://band.link/LockOnFC2.
Boberro Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I use AIMP to play radio stations during my game and I am satisfied it ;] Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ

EtherealN Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Well now, c0ff isn't only involved in sound AFAIK. :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

Though, no promises. I´m not upset at all. And i understand and agree that its a low priority option, and for stability reasons it was better to remove it, but its a such a neat detail to have it, that it push me to put this little request (complaint). Please don´t take it as a serious complaint, the spirit of the topic was more of a request, but i guess i wans´t succesfull to make it look that way. And as for using winamp or aimp, its not the same thing, not even near. Still, i for your post i keep high hopes to have it back, even if most likely will take a lot of time to get it back since it must be very low on priority list. Thanks for the answe c0ff!
Focha Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Where one can see the differences from the previous sound engine to the new one? Is there any significant changes? I can live without the radio broadcast, I only used it once just to hear what it was about. Best regards. Dagger_c3 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 (edited) Couldn't this be done by Lua + dll plugin that links with the winmm.dll library??? Something like this: http://www.geekpedia.com/code111_Play-MP3-Files-Using-Csharp.html But instead of using a C# wrapper, using a C++ one. Of course we probably loose the interferences effects, the radio range and so on, but at least it will be something.... Edited May 27, 2010 by Dagger_c3
