rattler Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Ok, I have a bad shimmering effect with Fc2.0. Had no problems with FC1.12B. Has anyone got a suggestion. Have tried many settings nothing seems to work. I also have modman 7.2 and have no way to use graphics setup. It is grayed out. Any ideas on that one too. Thanks.

rattler Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 (edited) Do you mean this shimmerning? The ground and buildings look like there is a heat wave coming from the ground effect. Looks like buildings etc are moving in a haze. Some jaggies as well. FC1.12 was working perfect. With my older system and with this new system.I can't take a screen shot because you will not see the effect. However you may see the jaggies so I will put one on this post in a few min. I am new to Fc2 but been with the series since Flanker2.5. Is there anything that is not broke in FC2? Excellent Graphics, better Fm but everything seems full of bugs. Patch is installed but does not help a great deal. Oh yes you can play MP with DCS-BS if you can get it to work. Just frustrated with the amount of problems. I don't think I have to list them as they are all here to read. Sure hope for a good patch next time if there is a next time. I sure hope so. To say it is better than Fc1.12b, I would not say that at this moment has it the potential, very much so and for that I applaud ED. Sure hope that in time this all gets sorted out. Slayer Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 You should turn on some anti aliasing too it gets rid of the jagged lines on your MFD. for it to work in LOFC2 or DCS:BS you need to "override any application setting" in the nvidia control panel. rattler Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 Ensure in your Nvidia control panel for FC2 simulator.exe or globally: Texture Filtering - Negative LOD bias = Clamp Anisotropic filtering = 16x ( this may hurt FPS though) Hi Crunch: In Nvidia control panel I have a setup for Lockon(custom) settings Lod is set to clamp and I am run AF at 16xQ. Most settings are almost the same as I had for FC1.12. Changed a couple of settings to try and find what may improve the problems. No luck yet. The FC1.12 setting were no good so I am changing them slowly and seeing if I can get any improvement. So far none. Thanks for the reply. Sure hope I can figure this out. Then I can tackle trying to figure out why certain things won't work. Some I think may have to do with how FC2 keys are named. Example: the actually specify left or right ctl, alt. Although the key print out does not specify this but in game options for control does. So may take some time to get through some of that and hopefully the Joystick problems will go away.LOL.

I will try some settings and see, then I will post the settings here and see if anyone has anymore ideas. Thanks for the help.

There is a no cloud shadow mod that removes shimmer on the horizon. If your system is weak you may not be able to set high scenes and textures but in any case set vsb rng to med I suggest. Good luck. rattler Posted July 8, 2010 Author Posted July 8, 2010 ok, I made all the suggested settings. Global custom settings. From what I can tell the simmer seems to be on the lakes and rivers in front view, Not so bad on side or back views. I get this radar gird movement in cockpit. What is the res.cockpit for. Settings are 256,512,512 each frame etc. what should this be set at. I tried 512 and 1024 each frame but did not seem to make any difference. That is in the game options graphics list. I now have my joystick commands working after 2 days for messing around and reading forum threads. Man this is frustrating as hell. Some you type as per key input instructions and some the same way as Fc1.12. Drives you nuts.:D. Not that I am already that way:D. Well I am still interested in any info you can give. Meanwhile I will try setting different settings and see whats happening. Oh, one question, why cant modman 7.2 let you adjust the graphics settings like we could in FC1.12 or have I got a bad download. I tried 7.3 and now 7.2 which I am staying with for now. Maybe if I could get in there and change some clipping distance etc. I might be able to get this thing fixed. Appreciate any ideas on this as well. Thank you everyone for the feedback, I sure can use it right now. cheers.

If you really want triple buffer, you can enable it with D3DOverrider (available with Rivatuner)
rattler Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 Ok folks: Downloaded New version of nhancer for x64 for Nvidia cards, did some tinkering and volia, perfect picture. Now if I can just learn how to do some things, like copy a training mission, save as another name and be able to edit it and have it stay that way would be a real help. So if anyone would like to take a new FC2 fan by the hand for a little while and show me some basic things I can do, I should be able to work from there. I can see where the manual would be a real help.:D:smartass:

You can open any mission in the Mission editor, and then save it as you like, of course you can also just copy and rename the file directly from the folder if that is only what you want to do. nomdeplume Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 What is the res.cockpit for. Settings are 256,512,512 each frame etc. what should this be set at. This sets the resolution of displays within the cockpit. It affects things like the Shkval, Maverick seeker cam, and the rear-view mirrors if you have them enabled. Higher resolutions will look better, but will require more power to produce.
rattler Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 Ok, thanks for that info on the cockpit res.. Mission I can copy and edit but it will still only fly as per the original. When I open it up, my changes are on the map but it will not fly that way. One thing I found by accident was, I made some changes and from the mission editor I asked to fly and there was my changes, now only thing is once I depart I can't talk to the tower, it is still looking for me at the original destination airport. I made a route to take me back to the departure airport but tower will not answer. Some very strange things going on. I assume if you take the time to make one from scratch, it will work? Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Thanks all.
vanir Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I'm having a strange problem. Getting dark black lines on the aircraft skin, some shadows problem. Nvidia card (7600GS 512). Played with settings, figured I should update driver and download Nhancer for xp32. First 100+meg download was broken. Tried just the driver, 80 meg and that continually says "non 7-zip archive" every time I try to run the installer. I downloaded winrar (I used 7-zip) and get the same message. So I can't update my driver (standing one is like v170-something, old), Nhancer current version needs at least v186 or something, so I can't install that and I've got this dumb problem with the shadows on the FC2 aircraft skins. Everything else runs fine, fps is a little slow but I've got 8x/8x supersampling and high settings in options, it does run okay. Really annoying about the driver thing, any ideas?

Don't know your download time but mine was about 1 min. for windows 7x64 Nhancer(new version) You will not make any improvements worth while unless you have Nhancer. The Nvidia Control Panel is useless for this sim. I know, I have been play with this for 2 days. Once I got Nhancer, toke my first attempt at settings and it runs perfect. Got rid of ALL my problems with graphics. I am pushing higher setting than you have with no problems. Just got to get the right combination and your problems will disappear . Give us some idea of you system. Nhancer has two versions one for x32 the other for x64. Make sure you get the right one.:)
vanir Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I finally managed to update my driver and installed Nhancer. What sort of settings are you using, I've still got the black lines and shadows problem and my fps has actually gone down to virtually unplayable. I'm using pretty conservative settings at 8x combined ss and 4x anisotropy; game options at medium. cpu amd3200 single core 4gig ram geforce 7600gs 512 it should run okay with workable frame rates for this sim unless I max everything out, so something's definitely up.

vanir Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Yeah I've tried the BS tweakguide thread and been playing around with Nhancer settings but can't seem to get my fps up to something workable, especially exterior view is really killed on clear day. What's weird is absolutely nothing I do seems to have any noticeable effect one way or another, game options medium or high doesn't change anything. Plus my cpu is at 100% everytime it switches to a loading screen, I think it could be the cpu here. I know it's only a single core amd3200 but other people seem to have no better cpu and get it working okay.
